you don't....write flash. It's not a language, it doesn't come in scripts.

Its multimedia. You need Flash (the program) to make it, and thats a fairly expensive program. Not as expensive as director though...

DIRECTOR makes shockwave movies, which on the surface are a lot like flash, but definetly different. There actually is a scripting language that is used in director, but if you're making simple movies it's not necessary. Of course, the whole point of shockwave is to make cool movies and games, which definetly do use that language (Lingo).

comprende?

I can't be 100% certain, but I thought Flash 5 allowed you to have a certain scripting inside Flash called "Active Script"
I haven't really read the tutorial yet, but I think they said something about it being kinda like javascript?

Pyros is correct. Flash 5 (and the earlier Flash 4) does use Active Scripts, which are basically souped up javascript and vbscript that allows better ineractivity with the Flash animations.

Flash is actually no different than something you would do in Photoshop - all animations are made up of frames and layers, with each layer doing a different animation or behavior. The learning curve is pretty steep for the absolute newbie, but once you get the hang of it, it's very fun to do (and is a good thing to have in your resume).

Flash 5 does allow limited scripting with three important features:
(1) Text file includes to alter text and send variable strings to control display (also in flash 4)
(2) A script driven flash generator server, which allows you to make swf's on the fly from images on server & text files
(2) Scripted database queries using Java and JDBC, which when combined with the flash generator allow you to have fully dyamnic flash files.

No, it is not as programable or as interactive as Shockwave, but together these enhancements make it easy to serve up dymanic content in a flash framework, and make it possible to easily integrate flash with dynamic web publishing systems.

Hope this helps.

You can port flash to any OBDC connection using XML as the front interface [Linked Image]
