It's not a "hack", but a template modification to public_topic_page.pl - would involve some work depending on what type of table borders you have chosen in your styles settings. Not very easy and still retain the table structure as is...

I am not like you ppl at ubbdev where hacking ubb is a simple day in the park i know some cgi to a point but making changed without problems is not my specatie !
