For those who have not seen it in the U-zine here it is. Template Name: BLAMice, BLAMearth Author: Bookie Credits: Big thanks to LK for the help with the avatar and status on the main page, and several UBBdevers for testing. Blue Scheme: Here Green Scheme: Here Demo: Blamoholics This is actually one of my first sets of templates that I have released. Be sure to read the instructions as it will most likely not work if you don't. I have a few other colors coming up for those not into the light blue. Hope everyone enjoys them. ----------------------------------------- This is the thread where you get help installing these templates and reporting bugs. I will also be posting alternate color styles in this thread too.

Great work! Will this overwrite existing hacks and such? This is the only thing that's stopping me from going any further.

Yes it will, and you'll have to edit any hack you install to work with it.

You really should be taking advantage of the alternative HTML template feature and the style import/export feature. As things are now, you're forcing the board admin to use this template set and only this template set...

I love you work but i found a little bug in your template. when PNTF is enabled the text inside that box [whos online] is invisible because the text color is the same as the background. Also buttons "Add New Topic" & "Preview Post" doesn't work after your template is installed.

your template was tested on two different forums. One was fresh, clean installed ubb forum with no members or even ubb hacks on it, 2nd regular with ubb hacks/members. Installed twice on both, and the results are the same...can't get both buttons to work.

I must say excellent work! My only question is how come my "Status" will not show anything. The link to my board is http://www.nysro.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi Nor does my Avatar pull up on the main page! Thanks!

"http://www.nysro.com/cgi-bin/ubb_status.cgi" gives me ISE. Make sure you chmodded ubb_status.cgi to 755 (or whatever ultimatebb.cgi) is chmodded to, and the first line (#!/usr/bin/perl) reflects ultimatebb's first line.

Small error in the templates, those who are having troubles posting new topics re-download the zip file and upload public_new_topic_form.pl to the proper directory.

i cant seem to get the "your avatar" image to work, in the forum summary. it works ok in the posts, just not here.
**edit update** ahh, yes. updating the ubb_status file sure would help.
im a big dumb animal. i hereby renounce all previously claimed crediting.

You must upload vars_faq.cgi for your FAQ to work. The search images are fixed in the latest zip. quote: [qb]Originally posted by drkknght: hmm...another question:

ok, a legit question.
the forum info, recent visitors info says:
"There are currently ___ browsing the forums" (with the underscore being the amount of people you have).
say i opt to have a list displayed, instead of the number -- the message would now read "There are currently drkknght browsing the forums."
how can i go about editting that text?
i searched all through the wordlets for "currently," but was unable to find anything.
(ideally, id like to have a list of names displayed, and change "there are currently" to "online:" -- and just remove "browsing the forums")
does this appear somewhere in the worldlets? (i couldnt find it in the pntf template files you gave, either)

Nope... I didn't add it in the wordlets. Open public_pntf_summary.pl and find: code:
<span class="descript-font">There are currently
Replace that with: code: [qb] <span class="descript-font"> Users Online: [/qb] Then find Delete that. Then in the CP set it so it displays user list.

speaking of the your info section... (and i dont know if this is a template issue, or somethin with recent visitors, or even cookies... mmm...coookies...) for whatever reason, im inexplicably and randomly 'forgotten' by my beta message boards (located here ) the forum summary still says hello to me ("hello, drkknght!)," but just beneath that, it tells me when i've last visited, followed by an "unregistered" status and no avatar image. it even occasionally happens immediately after i reply to something. mean ole board.

dunno - its weird. Someone must be eating your cookies.. Crow, it is simple. Take the ubb_status.cgi file and upload it. Then looks at my public_forum_summary.pl template file, and take the parts out of the header.

Is there any way to get the ubb_status.cgi to work with an avatar hack (IE Avatar Hack from Qasic?). I'm not using 6.3 although I have it because I must have my hacks!

I take it we can't change the colour scheme or anything via the control panel? Since you said you'd be posting colour variations here...

The templates are for 6.3 so they will not work. quote: [qb]Originally posted by Roland Deschain: I take it we can't change the colour scheme or anything via the control panel? Since you said you'd be posting colour variations here...[/qb] Yes, you can change the color scheme in the control panel, but you will need to edit the font color in the css file if you wish to change font colors. You would also need to change the graphics.

When I get a "no results" on the search results page, I need one more on the colspan="n" code:
<tr bgcolor="#DEE1E7"><td class="normal-font"> <b>Your search did not return any results.</b>
» Please use your browser's back button to return. </td></tr>
needs to be: code: [qb]<tr bgcolor="#DEE1E7"><td class="normal-font" colspan="2"> <b>Your search did not return any results.</b>
» Please use your browser's back button to return. </td></tr> [/qb] looking real good bookie

Ah, thanks Allen. never picked up on that... I need to fix the colspan on some login redirectors, will fix that soon. sc415, I currently have the green and tan schemes done, and just need some final modifications to do. I doubt there will be a dark color scheme for this template set... however, I just might be working on something for those who prefer darker schemes.

doh! so strage. im checkin now, and it says "hello, new name" (thats me!) -- shows when i last visited.... but then says im unregistered with no avatar {edit update} i just replied to a post, then came back to the summary, and now it knows me again (i gottan avatar, and a status, etc, etc). still very strange, tho, that im recognized in one place, and not the other upon first arrival.

Have you put the template files in the right directory? in the latest set i put them into a sub folder so you might want to double check that you are uploading them where you uploaded them when you first installed them.

Bookie, do you have an easy code if I want to seperate my categories? I dont really have the time to look into your templates and I was curious to find out if it was something simple. Thanks again for this great work!

For the pntf, the link to the pntf view page seems to disappear if it is set to "List user names"....coz the only links are to the profile of the user...i
s there a way to have it both ways such that the # of users are displayed which has a link to the pntf page..while the usernames who logged in are also displayed like default...?

This is kind of off topic, this template set doesn't seperate categories. Try starting a new topic. quote: [qb]Originally posted by MacBiXX: For the pntf, the link to the pntf view page seems to disappear if it is set to "List user names"....coz the only links are to the profile of the user...i

you don't have the images properly linked in the header, you must put the full URL to the images.

2 questions:
1) in the "your info" section, can it be set up to disply HTML? (sometimes, i place in images or flash banners as user status, and instead of popping up here like it does in the profile, you just get that long string of clash code)
2) the above mentioned nysro.com page has a nifty pm inbox hack added to the your info section -- is that a bid ole customized bit? or just a minor alteration to an existing "pm hack"?
thanks!

aahh... apparently a minor alteration by jordo's pm inbox. for others interested, follow the existing instructions as laid out in the PM hack's zip file, except for the forum summary. instead, search for: code: [qb]Your status is: <b><span id="status"></span></b> [/qb] and add below: i'm a hacker!

introducing...phausen's quick-and-easy compact footers!this'll just neaten up the area below your forums (with the copyright and "contact us" line), placing everything inside a 1 row, 3 column table that is styled like the rest of your forum tables. note 1: you're changing the position and placement of the infopop copyright, but you are NOT removin it (they've got goons! they come rigth to your house!!) note 2: im notta frickin hacker! this code could be complete ass, and work only via coincidence! dont blame me if your board crashes, server explodes, computer melts, family betrays you, boss fires you, ex girlfriend finds you, or car wont start. all that said,... in public_common.plfind: code:
$Footer .= qq~
$ContactLine</font> ~ if $ContactLine;
$Footer .= qq~ <span class="copyright"> $vars_display{YourCopyrightNotice}
$InfopopCopyright </span> </center>
$vars_style{Footer} </body> </html> ~;
delete and replace with: code: [qb] $Footer .= qq~
~ if $ContactLine;
$Footer .= qq~
$TBT <td valign="middle" align="center" bgcolor="$vars_style{AltColumnColor2}"><span class="copyright">$InfopopCopyright</span></td> <td valign="middle" align="center" bgcolor="$vars_style{AltColumnColor1}">$ContactLine</td> <td valign="middle" align="center" bgcolor="$vars_style{AltColumnColor2}"><span class="copyright">$vars_display{YourCopyrightNotice}</span></td> </tr> $TBB </center> $vars_style{Footer} </body> </html> ~; [/qb]

hey, does anyone who uses bookie's templates have problems with webtv users?
some of my board members who use the god-awful service are claiming an inability to access the redesigned forums via webtv.

Hey Rob Run it through a validator first and see if errors pop-up, then if there's css, do the same there. That will get most of them After that's done, let me know if you are still having problems with them infernal web-tv eejits

Below are the results of attempting to parse this document with an SGML parser.
Fatal Error: no document type declaration; will parse without validation
I could not parse this document, because it uses a public identifier that is not in my catalog.
Sorry, this document does not validate as HTML 4.01 Transitional.
If you use CSS in your document, you should also check it for validity using the W3C CSS Validation Service.

the errors with your css file are more likely the cause of the problems with web-tv. Work on that and I'll take a look at the templates. You can check them, just choose a doc-type (xhtml 1.0 transitional should be the correct one).

would "warnings" be a problem? (or is that just the validator being over protective?) most of the errors in the css are related to the scroll bar colors. those 8 errors indicate that the specific HTML coded color isnt real (but it is! promise! the code, itself, isnt really wrong... just cant be validated (right?) -- the scroll bar colors DO work (at least in IE) the other error, line: 199, is the last tidbit in bookies style sheet, which says: but i dunno whats wrong with this part.

warnings and errors can both be significant if it causes the web-tv browser to choke on the whole css file Something similar happened to a threads site last week regarding netscape, once the css was fixed all was happy

hmm... thanks for all the help, double a.
im not sure what else to fix up, tho.
a lotta those warnings are about specifying a background color for, like, text and links (which i dont wanna do, cuz i dont wanna bg).
plus, i dunno what to do with that whole "public identifier" thing.
oy! infernal webtv!

those can be very helpful... in other browsers as well. "transparent" is a legitimate color for the background if you don't want one. Check out this example for what I mean: https://www.ubbdev.com/threads/php/stylesheets/azure.css

And run it through the css validator:
http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator?uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ubbdev.com%2Fthreads%2Fphp%2Fstylesheets%2Fazure.css&warning=1&profile=css2

sweet -- thanks AA.
thus far, i've managed to remove all of the warnings and most of the errors (other than the scroll bar and that other one, which i dunno what to do about)

found this info, below, on this site (re: scrollbars/validation) Why don't my scrollbar properties, filters, etc. validate? The CSS Validator validates your style sheet against some profile, e.g. CSS Level 1 or CSS Level 2. Some browser Vendors however extend these profiles by new properties like Microsoft did with the scrollbar-base-color or filter property or Mozilla with the -moz-opacity property. The Validator is not aware of these properties and using them makes your style sheet invalid in terms of the CSS specifications. Either get rid of those properties or live with the fact, that your style sheets don't validate. You cannot have both.

further, i found that applying the "transparent" bg color to some of the CSS options bookie has laid out messed up the tables.
when i applied it to everything that "required" it (according to the validation warnings), the tables seemed all screwy -- not abiding by their defined cells. instead of color 1, color 2, color 1, color 2 going across, it was 1, 2,2,2,2,1

I will check it out if you like, post a link to your css file and let me know where the base blam css ends and your own begins. As well, I'll look at the templates themselves and make sure they are compliant.

as always, thanks, double a. here's me link: http://www.robkamphausen.com/ubb/blamblue.css its really 99% bookie's, i just went in a few places and changed some of the code (like font styles or colors -- added a few sections like usertitle, scrollbars, etc). one problem ( bookie, read heeyah!) was a few of the lower font-family groups were spelled "famly" (the browser seemed to just pick up the word "font" and OK it, but, all the same...). im not sure if they're still webtv destroying since all the changes you've helped me with tonight (no way to check, except to email my few webtv users and wait til they getta chance). so, its possible all is well now -- ill keep you updated (lucky you!)

danke What you might consider is using a seperate css file for just the scroll-bar colors, just in case web-tv is choking on those errors. There's a web-tv viewer at their site as well you can download and get a good idea how your site looks to them. Let me tell you, it'll be shocking the first time, they seem used to it tho.

argghhh... ok, spent all morning setting up a test forum just for this and uploading the files: http://www.stand318.com/test2/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi Click on the "valid xhtml 1.0" link at the bottom. It needs a good bit of work to be xhtml compliant, and that could very well be where it's choking for web-tv users (not including the stylesheets). Unless Bookie gets to it before me, I'll get these updated, as they are beautiful templates, but I don't think we can expect that before ubb 6.4. Sorry, there's a lot to be done there

OK, made significant headway on it today: https://www.ubbdev.com/templates/BLAMice.zip If nothing else, redo the code from the instructions and upload public_common.pl, public_forum_page.pl, and public_forum_summary.pl - those were worked on the most. I'll look at others when I get a chance.

ok, currently (pre-downloading your latest efforts), my webtv users have been able to post and visit and all that...
but, intriguingly, they cant switch names.
like, if his name is AAAAA, but he has an alternate id as BBBBB -- when he visits the boards, it lists him as BBBBB. so, he clicks on log out, signs on as AAAAA and goes to post... except he's BBBBB again.
its a problem that you'd think could be fixed by deleting your cookies, but... webtv users dont have any (right?).
tho, my main concern was simply the fact that the boards be accessible at all to them (the fraction of webtv users is small enough, let alone the even less significant fraction of webtv users with 2 names).
ill keep checkin on stuff tho
thanks AA!

http://uo.invisionworld.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi Why does my welcome message seem to have an extra " " in front of it..? I can't find it in the code, but it seems to be very "out of line".

I'll look at it for you tomorrow if you like, are you using the files I uploaded yesterday? That section is in the code we add in ubb_forum_summary.cgi

No, I used Bookie's original files.. I didn't know what changes you made in the file, so I just used the file from blamoholics.

i think bookie just likes all those spaces when reworking the templates myself, i noticed a lot of them, like the one you mentioned, fellow knight. i believe the one you mentioned is in forum_summary template -- listed as the " " code

Sorry for the lack of support for these templates, I have really been busy and doubt I will have much time to help. Thanks for all the hard work your putting into these Allen, I appreciate it.

http://uo.invisionworld.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi I'm doubting I'll get any support here, but I've tried adding that top status part of the template because I think it looks absolutely awesome, but I'm having a few problems.. I've uploaded ubb_status.cgi, hacked ubb_forum_summary.cgi and public_forum_summary.pl. I'm currently having 3 main problems: 1.) Even though a user has selected an avatar, the "user image" doesn't change in that little stat area. It stays as unregistered.gif 2.) The statistic area isn't displaying a user's status.. It just stays as "Your Status is:" 3.) If I have Recent visitors displayed as a category (which is supposed to send it up to that little status area) it sends it ABOVE that area in an extra grey table, and sends the right of the stats up there with it, and still displays it seperatly aswell.

1) Did you chmod the ubb_status.cgi file? (755) 2) Same as 1 3) Upload the public_pntf_summary.pl file that comes in the zip. ---- chances are for #1 and 2 is that you missed a line you need to add, it is not all in the top of the file... there is one line at the bottom part that also needs to be added for it to work.

W00t! With a little work, it works..! Thanks for the pointers A few more problems have arrised though.. http://uo.invisionworld.com/cgi-bin/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum;f=1 1.) What do I have to edit in public_forum_page.pl? 2.) Why does my avatar and status take about a second to load up when yours is instant.. Is there some more code I've missed somewhere or is my server just on the sluggish side? One last question Bookie, on Blamoholics you have how many registered users there are on your board next to who is the newest member.. I tried to do this but couldn't get it to show how many users had registered.. The furthest I could get was "Registered Members:" Can you point me in the right direction for this? Can you IM me back on AIM when you have the time? It's not urgent.. - Thanks.

For Number 2, it does the same thing for me. It's usually the last thing to load up on the page.

There's a little script you have to add in at the bottom of public_forum_summary.pl or ubb_forum_summary.cgi.. I can't remember which. View the differences of your files up to BLAMIce files. It's somewhere in between $pntf_location[2] and $pntf_location[3].

*sigh* This should fix it up for you.. In public_forum_summary.plFind: code:
. Add this above: code: [qb]<script type="text/javascript" src="$vars_config{CGIURL}/ubb_status.cgi"></script> [/qb] . That should fix your problems.. Upload the hacked file, clear the cache and prey..

make sure if you were using and older zip that you reapply the hack to ubb_forum_summary.cgi, if you are not sure check if you have a variable named $RegisteredMemberLineB in that file, if you do not have that... rehack ubb_forum_summary.cgi. If you have it make sure you have $RegisteredMemberLineB in public_forum_summary.pl as well.

I was wondering if we could request another scheme? I wanted to use this for a UBB I work on but the blue doesn't match their scheme and even if I change the colors the images and table borders don't match. So are we allowed to request any image sets for other colors?

I did hack the ubb_forum_summary.cgi and the variable "$RegisteredMemberLineB" is there, also in the public_forum_summary.pl.
Only thing not showing up is how many users are registered.

Only thing not showing up is how many users are registered. Just use the $RegisteredMemberLine without the b and everything will show..... members regged then underneath say hello to the newest member... gl

Go to your CP - Style Settings - BlamICE (Or whatever your using) and then edit. Scroll down and you will see Table Width with a percentage (95% is default I think) Make the percentage lower to smallen the widths.

alo bookie n'co
my board members have been complaining of major slowness lately in page loading, so i think i want to start from scratch and rebuild my boards.
whats the newest, cleanest "blam" version y'got? (didnt know if there was one in the works, of if i should just grab the "least-oldest" from in here ...?)

actually, bookie -- is there anyway to get a version that is less reliant upon the CSS styles? possibly not at all?
i think thats partially what is giving a lot of my users load-time problems (for whatever reason).
id love to help out reworking it with/for you, i just dont really know what parts to change or alter, etc (not much of a coder, outside html).
lemme know!

they should be faster with css, increased load times would be due to server load... the pages are smaller with css in'em

doh!
hmm... then mebbe its all the graphics going around the post tables? even tho they only total 5kb, i think...
man, i dont know. it just seems that some users are having a difficult time with things, always complaining about the speed, while others are simply breezing right through.
i is confused!

One thing you might consider is that those on slower computers will have some difficulty with these templates as they use a lot of html and images to make this look. It can take a bit for them to write all that html out - especially on slower computers. They look nice, but it does take a little while to render on my pII 233 with dialup at home

yeah, thats what im fearing.
some users are complaining that the design can take from 10 to 30 seconds per page to load, which takes all the fun outta posting.
which is really disheartening, considering those same users posted without trouble before the inclusion of the blam! template set.
is there anything else in the design that just outright slows things down (compared to, say, ubbdev's more "standard" look?)
for example, does seperating the posts into their own little tables create a processor drain?
bottom line, is there any lil thing i can do to alter the design of the templates so that they'll load significantly faster?

Is this going to be ported to 6.4? I LOVE BLAMIce, but when I upgraded to 6.4, it broke.

I may port it, but I would have to practically almost rebuild it. So I think I may just make a whole different template set instead.

Hi. To the guy who couldn't get registered members to show in Bookie's most excellemt BLAM template, go into CP and make sure the feature is enabled in General Display. Mine turned itself off when I installed the BLAMIce templates.
Worked for me.
