Greetings folks!

We've been using UBB Classic for many years. When we originall set up our forum, our member number started at #2 (you may remember 4tugboat? wink )

Anyway. I would like enable member account #1 on my forum, which can be found at the below URL. I would like to then auction this member account off for charity. Any assistance or help would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

I would reccomend auctioning off the account before recreating it, as the winner will probably want to set their username and password

To add back member #1, create 00000001.cgi in the Members directory. You'll add the info for the new user into this file. It'd be best to copy the info of an existing member into the file, and edit the fields accordingly.

Once that file is uploaded, you'll try Rebuilding the Member stats in the CP.

You should now have a working account smile

That does not work from my experience. I tried to create a member from a number that didn't exist (#1028) using the account info from member #50xx (my bro's friend, wanted to have an earlier member#).

I created the cgi file, copy and pasted all info from the 50xx account and edited the appropriate fields, and rebuilt the member stats. It worked at first. However, when this person was viewed in the directory, they had no post history. Additionally, they tried to login to the account the next day and was told they didn't exist. I verified this both using UBB CP and looking for the file on the server. It was gone completely.

I'm thinking possibly the UBB got confused with the lack of post history and cleared the file? I'm not sure, but Ian's directions were what I did and it didn't work out for me.

Good luck, though. Maybe it was something else smile

If you modify someone's member file, the topics they participated in are still named after the old account. You need some programming skills to change the member number in the topic file, and it's not so difficult if you know a thing or two about Perl.

Basically, create a script that opens all your topics (it's better to open about 200 at once, because if you work on too many topics at once the script will time out,) finds
Code
A||(.*?)||(.+?)||(.+?)||(.+?)||(.*?)||(.+?)||(.*?)||(.+?)||00000000(.*?)
(Replace 00000000 with the old member number) and replaces the old member number with 00000001. That would make the topics he/she used to write with their new member number.

Then look at all the posts, find:
Code
Z||(d{6})||(.+?)||(dd-dd-dddd)||(dd:dd SM)||(.*?)||(.+?)||(.+?)||(.+?)||(.+?)||(.+?)||00000000(.*?)
and do the same as before.

This code was just made up so I have no idea whether or not it works.

Hi.

Tried the above. Negative results, althought I DO appreciate your time and efforts. If anyone can provide a solution I'm able to follow concisely, I would be eternally grateful. Just to state again, we hope to auction this off for charity and have already generated considerable interest. I would really love to pull this off.

Thank you again!

McJ.

I was talking about making a fresh account, not moving the previous account to 1. I have made new accounts this way before, and know it will work

It will, I've done it a few times myself. I've re-created accounts here after we were hacked in the old 5.47e days... and again around 6.1 or so when we had someone flood the site with registrations with an auto-script and I had to hand-make acct files for those overwritten in the first 30 or so smash

Yup! We're good to go! I registered a new account, edited the cgi file and renamed to 00000001 on our BETA server. Worked a treat! Will this cause any problems with indexing, pruning, .. general maintanence in the future?

Thanks again all!!!

the only side effect is that the new account will get credit for any posts made by previous #1
