Hello:

The only way I know to test newly installed hacks is to re-open the BB and test them out myself. But sometimes I did something dumb, and this inconvenienes the users. Is there a way I can apply hacks and then test them before opening the board back up?

Same goes for when I upgrade to 6.02 tonight or tomorrow - can I test it out along with the hacks I install to it before actually opening the board.

Thank you.

just spam the heck out of the board till you find a bug in it or feel safe that its bugless. Other than that, setup a second board and copy all the current files from you board to it and test it that way, thus you leave your current working board up and you have a second test board with all current member files and posts and such so you can test out hacks before acctually applying them. Its what I'm doing right now before I upgrade, due to the fact I just dont like inconviniencing ppl. I just copyed all files to my hd and then back to my host, say my working board is in /cgi-bin/ and /ubb/ dirs I just moved them to /cgi-bin/cgi-bin/ /ubb/ubb/ as I was too lazy to call my host and get them to change the permissions on any other dir(dang winNT) though if you can get full terminal remote access to your host it would be easier since I did spend about 8hrs downloading and uploading stuff. Works fine for me, and as long as your not too short on webspace for your site its a good way to test what possible problems the upgrade could cause and nip them in the butt before hand.

Unfortunately, without closing public access to your board (via a .htaccess file) or opening a "second" board, there's no way.

Sorry frown

Of course there's a way to test - install a HTTP server on your local machine.

If you don't know to go about doing that, I would start questioning if you're up to hacking your board.......

I'm perfectly capable of doing that, but it seems like a lot of trouble to go through. Also, I don't know if all the files are perfectly cross-platform between Win2K and Linux. I don't have mod_perl installed on my desktop, either.

Installing hacks is so simple even a beginner could do it.
