I'm wondering If I should wait for version 6.1 to install my hacks, or just go ahead with 6.05?

It really depends.
For the normal UBB owner, I'll recommend doing hacks right night (in 6.05 instead of 6.1) because many hacks for the 6.1 series will have to be re-written.
