I'm looking for a hack that will add a button (or something) that when clicked on, will mark all forums/posts as "Read" (past tense) for that member.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help,

Paul

What do you mean? So there is new posts in every topic all the time?

No, not as new, as old... laugh

So, if you are showing threads/forums as having New posts, you can click a button, and it marks all of them as 'old', or "No new posts since you last visited" kinda thing.

The idea is to force them to all reset to no new posts anywhere. So if you come back later, whatever is new, is really newer then when you manually forced everything as 'old'.

Does that make sense?

Makes sence now,. There isn't a hack like that and they are all on New posts either because there is new posts or the cookies are doing this. If you don't want them on new posts try going to the forum, going to some other site and then re-visiting the forum. See what that does.

Thanks for responding Dex, I do appreciate it smile

Damn... Its driving me crazy. Many members are irritated too.

Whats happening is that they browse everything of interest to them (i.e. Fourms showing "new posts"), then they go cruise the net elsewhere, and come back say 20 minutes later. Well, the forums they just read are showing new posts still. So you go look, and the "new" posts are the still ones that were new from the last time visited.

Its like the cookies arent expiring as quickly, or when they are supposed to. Its irritating because its doing it to everyone in any browser.

Oh well.... frown I've been trying to help my friend with this for a few days now, and I am not willing to go 'code exploring' in the UBB core files. Hes been looking at Ikonboard, and I suspect this will convince him to switch eek

It exists in UBB 6.1.0. Download the 6.1 ZIP file and take the ultimatebb.cgi/ubb_lib_misc.cgi parts of mark_all_read, and in ultimatebb.cgi, replace '&RequireCode("...");' with 'require "...";'.

Heh... I know exactly what you're referring to.

I also suffer this with a 6.05 board. It is just incredibly annoying. smile

I looked for the &RequireCode variable in ultimatebb.cgi from 6.05. I couldn't locate it.

Is this variable only in 6.1x now?
