Im very new to this so please be kind to me.:)
Im looking to find the hello/ log out message that is displayed at the top of this forum...I promice i have searched for it but no luck.....Im using v 546..Please help as i think this is a really niffy little gismo.:)

The Hello / Log In is a new "standard" feature in v6 ...

A good thing to upgrade

moving to "questions" -

that mod was developed by Dave Downin, the latest version is always found:

http://www.arlo.net/ubb/hacks/

The last adress http://www.arlo.net/ubb/hacks/ only has an hack to login/logout, but it doesn not display the hello username anywhere. it just makes a link for someone to login by reading the cookie infos.

ummm not sure about upgrading....Im getting in enough of a mess doing what im doing so far.:)
Is there not a hack for the whole thing? If its easy to upgrade then i would go for it but when i say easy...i mean really easy or i get lost.....:)

I am wondering why is this hack useful?

I mean, it says in the prompt that once logged in you don't need to enter username/pass again, but with the cookies, a user never have to enter username and pass..

So what's the utility of this script?

I checked it a little, when your cookie is set you don't get the login link, but a logout link.. and when you logout what does it do? Remove the cookie, probably not since there is the last visited time in it... ?
