Thanks for taking the time to read this thread! I'm using UBB 5.47 and everything works great (45+ hacks), but one thing has never worked: the outbox on my Private Messages does not save any PM's! Once in a great while it will, but very seldom.... Anyone??? Pleas!!!!

I personally haven't had this problem.
BUT..you are spot on with the title.
UBB Dev has abandoned the 5.x forums. Hell, even the moderators ignore it.
If you don't have or can't move to 6.x, you are SOL.
Very poor IMO.

The only reason I'm still using UBB 5.x is because my hosting plan is paid for the year. Once it runs out, I will be upgrading to VBulletin. Which I will need to switch to a new host due to the SQL database.

I use v5.4 because it's easier to modify.
ubb 6 is a lot harder.

Have any of you guys thought about switching to VB? It's cheaper, and you don't need to install any hacks. Just curious.

VB? If it looks like UBB, I'd rather run the original and not a hybrid.

A busy UBB 5 board can run on a shared server easily. A busy UBB 6 board probably not. A busy VB board would most likely saturate any shared MySQL server. A dedicated server is very expensive.
So....does anyone have a recommendation for a shared host site with provision for serious MySQL support (eg MySQL running on the shared server itself and not on a separate "doubly" shared database server).
I have around 30 concurrent users on UBB 5 - and would like to hear of anyone running VB 2 (or for that matter UBB 6) on a shared server for less or equal to $50 per month. I get around 90,000 http hits per day.
Please tell me the name of your host and monthly fee - but only if you have this sort of level of activity or greater on a shared server.
Also anyone with experience of semi-dedicated servers?
