might seem a bit odd...

I'm curious if this has been done..

for the user to get full content of the post, they would need to reply to the thread.

Have a look in the V5 Mofification forum, its been discussed in there.

https://www.ubbdev.com/ubbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=7&t=000600

Also from memory it tells you how to do it in the who's online hack documentation.

Yeah just use the SSI passage he posted in that thread and it will show you what threads your browsing.

mmm maybe I did'nt explain myself very well, excuse me for that..
what im thinking could be best described as a game....Like a trivia game or a brain teaser, where the poster can post the question and the answer in the same post..

when you view his post all you see is the question....

you would have to reply to the thread to get the answer..
In other words I want to "force replies" and at that time log ip's

I haven't seen that in the Database. It's getting hard to get some V5 Hacks.

so.....hmiguelito, walk the walk?

On a brighter note, a friend is possibly writing a new hack for this "hidden text"
option for version 5.47d.

If it works out well I would be more than happy to share with you guys..
got mah fingers crossed, should know in a few days...

welp so much for favors..I guess I did ask for alot....
I've seen the (ahem cough) vbb version in action

it has a text field for the hidden message..
If you use that field it just does it, no more clicks... very nice I must say, except my 5.47d is better than any vbb made...

If we could only come up with this hack for 5.47 we could take back this lil advantage vbb has..

anyone buying that... smile all good

Not many new hacks will be made for V5 since writers have moved on to V6, The latest mods out are the Affiliation hack and some edited hacks.

surley all you would have to do is to add a field to the topic, and on the sub PostReply make it get this field, it should be very easy and i could probably create it if i new how to add exra fields to a post. in theory you could even put it on the thanks for posting screen!

the very same thing as e@sy's hidden text hack for the 6.xx versions..

I would change his approach a little..

on the new post form there would be a additional text field for the text to be hidden..

If you use the option to hide text, when your post is created there will be a indication that the post contains a hidden message and that you must reply to the thread to view it..

only users that have replied & mods/admin can see the message...

appreciate you offering to look at it...t/y

I'm not familiar with the hack you're talking about but I have an idea how you can do this pretty easily. One question though, when you hit the reply button, will it show you the answer then or will you have to actually reply and wait? The second would be a tad more difficult.

1) Add a field for post new topics form for the hidden field
2) Append this new field to the individual topic file in the new topic subroutine
3) In the reply subroutine add a statement to print out that last hidden field
4) Done. It'll be a little more complicated than that of course but that should be your plan of action. Other things to consider are when you edit a post for it to include the hidden text field.

The only example I've seen work was on a vbb, yes I had to wait till my reply was created before the hidden message was readable..

thinking about this..that may not be necessary..

a pop up or a pm to the user replying would be adequate as well.. guess it really does'nt matter how they see it, as long as they see it after they click reply....

the whole point is to force a reply...

as ugly as that sounds, it really can be used for alot of friendly purpose...

Another possibility might be to put it in the in-between page that is refreshed before taken back to the topic.

the page that says "Thanks for Posting"

only problem is that it is not viewable for very long..

Another reason I want to stick with 5.47 is that its very fast.. that page is up for about 5 sec only..

I found the discussion link here for e@sy's hack but the link to the hack itself didn't work. I was gonna look at it to see exactly how he did it. By looking at the replies, it seems to always make this topic load fresh each time and not from the cache, that is, dynamically. Unfortunately there's no easy way to do that with the 5 series because they use static html pages. Sorry!

I have every forum on my board private, I'm not sure but does'nt that have something to do with the way the pages are made/stored?

I also have that hidden message hack for 6. versions, If you would like I can e mail it to you

I noticed you dont keep your e-mail address available to the public so if you want to e-mail me I can send the hack back to you..?
