anothe question for you lot, this one is very important to my project
I want to be able to post as an administrator in other peoples names.
only for new topics

so when i want to post a new topic, i type in my user name and the username i want to show on the post, any one done this one?

and then this little bit is optional, it ads it to their preofile.

I dont think it would be too hard.
The way I would do it is first check if the cookied username is an administrator, and if so show an extra input field in the Post New Topic/Reply screen. Then you would need to modify some code that submits the topic data to submit the username you specified, not the one that you logged in with.

Personally I think it would be easier to just make those people admins, wouldnt it?

well the idea behind this hack is so that only i or another admin can post new topics, i have delted the postnew topic commands on all pages, so i want to be able to do it through my cp, for what i am using the ubb for i don't want every one adding in new topics! i have to add them or one of my editorial team.

Wouldn't it be easier to just change the posting permissions in the control panel?

Do you mean like a forum where a Administrator can only post topics. You can do that in the CP.

Why would you want to post as other people, The members wouldn't like that I think because you could post stupid stuff like that.

Yeah, i cant quite understand why you would want to post as someone else... ..I would be pi**ed if someone used my username in vain, even if it was the admin of the board.

im not using it as a bullitin board, i have changed it completly, iu wanna know can it be done, and can anyone give me any pointers

he could always use the password in cp hack to get there passwords (u can do it thru member files anyway) its kinda pointless tho, i know i would be mad if the admin posted under my acount

your still not ganna be a admin under there acounts

Yeah I agree, I don't think the members will be too happy if you post as them for some reason.

Wow, talk about REALLY working over a UBB!!! I hate to say this, but you need to do a bit more to secure your forums...that is, once you sort out your licensing issues. I could register right now and post if I really wanted to...all it takes is a little thought. Your best bet is to post as YOU (Admin) and have their names in the Subject....like "Collin"-Why is it I can't post?

ok thanks you lot, i have had a thought and know of a way to make it work, i did forget that i had added my webaddress to my profile, as i have only just started on this site.

and about the licensce agreement issue. i have built my site up from plank pages, copy and pasteing code from all over the place plus writing my own, i have used the ubbs positng method + member profiles system, however im writting these from scratch. This is only a temporary site and will soon be changed to php when i have learnt that.
this site is not viewed by the general public as of yet and i wont be advertising it until i have completled it.

One other little thing i'll say i have wrote is at the top of the site is the Favourite function, just trying to proof to you i can wirte code.
