I'd like to know how to do it manually. I.e. which files do I need to hack and what stuff to add exactly. I'm only talking about the normal smilies, not message icons. I know how to add more of those.

I tried installing that Smilies CP hack and

a) spent an hour pondering wtf there is no smilies.txt to modify (after some searching it turns out the zip on this site is missing the file, which I found at SpAwN's later though)

b) when I finally installed it it didn't work. In fact, none of the smilies worked anymore, they weren't being converted from text like : and ) etc. On top of it all (even if it worked) I'd still be missing the file with the instructions on how to actually add more since the CP hack is not exactly very helpful regarding that. (How did that hack get so messed up anyway? Even SpAwN's site doesn't have any info regarding the usage of the CP panel for adding smilies, and I'm sure there was a txt about it originally.)

The only other smilies hack I know requires the UBB images code to be enabled, and I don't allow that on my board. So...

I need to find out how to do it manually. Shouldn't be too bad since I'll only be doing it once. Thanks in advance for help.

I havent used a CP smiley hack, but u could always go for the very easy Crack smileys hack.. e.g View the map on the left

Ok, the smilies.txt is Smilies.cgi and you hack that file if you have the UBB code buttons installed. The Smilies.cgi should have came with the hack zip.

And the smilie CP is the manual way of doing it. If you did it manual in like add the smilies in the files, it would be more of a hassle.

Rich9, that's the hack I said I don't want to use since you must have UBB img allowed.

Lord Dexter, I have all the files of that hack now... Except one which would tell me how to use the CP smilies hack. I have no idea what/how to add into the empty fields of the smilies CP frame. There's no explanation on it anywhere.

Also, should the default smilies automatically work after you install the smilies CP hack? Like and :rolleyes: etc? Or do you have to add them too?

Ok gladius, never had a UBB without that function on (ubb img) before AFAIK though.

The normal smilies will not work straightaway. Upload them into your smilie directory and add them.

Here is how to add them.

Make 10 or so new smilies. Now in the filename box put the name of the smilie inside your smilie directory (eg. bigggrin.gif) then in the other box put the code in and submit it. Do this with other smilies too.

Thanks guys. I found out later what the problem was... There are two smilie CP hacks, which use 3/4 of the same code but with one important difference - one utilizes the Crack's smilies panel, and you must have ubb images allowed for that one to work. (This is listed as the separate smilies CP hack in the database.)

The other smilies CP hack comes with the ubb buttons hack, but this one does not use Crack's panel, but is more like the manual way of doing it, as Lord Dexter said. I only found this out by going over both hacks page by page since there's no mention of this important difference anywhere.

Anyway, I now installed the smilies hack from the ubb buttons/smilies CP hack combo, and it works like a charm. The CP frame usage is a no brainer now.

Yes, they had to make different readme's because the SmilieMod usually isn't compatiable with all hacks made.
