I am self taught in perl and I consider myself to be pretty good at it but UBB's new method of parsing input has me baffled.

I'm, of course, familiar with ReadParse(). I can understand how the map{} line works, but I'm trying to figure out what the motivation for making the change was. What makes it better? Should I think about changing other perl scripts I've written?

ReadParse is a throwback to cgi-lib.

cgi-lib is evil.

ReadParse is slightly less evil, but still evil.

It ties the %in hash to a cal to param.

Doing a foreach keys %in will make dozens of calls to param.

In the event of major work, I.e. a prune or member information submit, there could be hundreds of calls to param.

So, to reduce the calls to param, %in has now been turned into a real hash, not a tied one.

Perlmonks have dedicated half their nodes to a spiritual quest to banish cgi-libs existance. o_O
