It says: But "&RequireVars("$vars_config{VariablesPath}/vars_wordlets_date.cgi");" is nowhere to be found. Where do I stick the vars_wordlets_mods.cgi definition then?

What directions are you using?
The only thing you need to do in cp.cgi is
# find:
wordlets_cp wordlets_err
# replace with:
wordlets_cp wordlets_err wordlets_mods
You need to get updated instructions from the beta forum.
