i know this might be the wrong forum to post this in but this forum is very active and it kind of is directed towards the ubb accel when the hack is done for it to be used properly with users online.
i run the ubb accel test and get the following results.
Your PHP version is 4.03: OK - old, but it should work
Your PHP version has zlib: Yes, but your PHP version is too old to use zlib properly
Your PHP version will have no issues with the UBB Accelerator. There are known issues with using zlib compression in your PHP version. The UBB Accelerator will be unable to use zlib compression.
Does this mean i will get not benefit at all from using the PHP accel? or just not as much??

I got the exact same notice. I'm not sure if it's even worth it to run the Accelerator now.

Using the Accelerator is almost always faster, even if you don't have the benefit of zlib compression.

Yeah, but many hacks aren't compatible with the Accelerator yet anyway - so I'll try and do w/o it (for the time being).

Uh, no - go without the hack until the author updates it, not the other way around.
The speed and ease on the server is worth it.
