There are some excellent and free bitmap fonts available for download at BitmapMania. Some free fonts are overpriced, but we would pay cash money for BitmapMania’s, and probably so would you. They’re that good. One little-discussed advantage of using bitmap fonts is that, because they don’t antialias, you won’t run into edge pixel problems when using them on a site that allows visitors to change the background color (like this site, for instance).

Umm...Allen? How can "free fonts" be overpriced? Must admit, that they produced very clear text. It's good to keep in mind that because of its size aliasing is good but anything larger you may want to consider anti-aliasing to give you a much more natural look...I'm referring to the edges. Regardless, I tend to alias the fonts. LOL. Cool link Allen.

Some that are free should have stayed under lock and key These are good if you are making things like buttons or logos in which the background color changes depending on the user preferences. The edge stays clean and not jaggy no matter if the color is dark or light.

If you liked those fonts, you’ll also like the pixel fonts of 04 .

Just thought I'd point out that our very own Cal has some great Bitmap fonts for free... Just in case anyone hasn't ever seen the site (Which is rather unlikely )
