Why is it read-only? please we want to find answers to the so many questions we have. There are still lots of v5.xx users out there. Since most of the hacks work on v5.xx.
Can you please re-open the Forum? I guess it will do no harm.

No offense, but this is a load of horse **** . You think v6 isn't on warez sites? Anyone who finds it will use v6 and not v5 so why the hell would you worry about it? Warez is a battle you can't beat, so why make other people (legit people) suffer! There's loads of people still using v5 (for various reasons), why cut off half the people you provide support to?

There is no legit reason for anyone to continue hacking 5.x.
There is no legit reason for anyone to make new installations of 5.x.
There is no legit reason for anyone to continue to even use 5.x.
5.x is dead. 5.x will remain dead.
If you really need help with 5.x, then go over to Scriptkeeper.

I don't like to upgrade my boards till the version is mature, 5.xx was looking good, with few bugs, sure the source was a mess, but hey. I'm not upgrading all my boards that I admin to 6.xx till its golden brown. There is a nice legit reason...

We are permanently discontinuing version 5x support. We suggest upgrading. No need to be left behind.

One legit reason for not upgrading, don't have access to the member's area anymore
Another one, already have a hacked up v5 that you like and don't want to lose all your features by upgrading
And Another one, because some of us like v5

Not having Members Area access is not a legitimate reason.

the thing i find discouraging is the database is down also! if you are going to close the 5.X forums, atleast keep the documentation and hacks around! if need to be i will open a section on my UBB 5.X for hacks regarding to 5.X users ONLY! dont throw the hacks away, please keep them open for people like myself to download! wondering why you dont keep the 5.X section open, but not worry about offering support for questions posted. chris

How about those of us that have specialized code that won't migrate to V6 without a complete (and very lengthy) rewrite? Gee, I guess not if you want to shell out $125 for something you won't use. This sucks. I came here over from UBBHackers because this site was so much better. If this is a mandate from Infopop, just say so, and we can go yell at them.

pixelmonkey - You may not start a ubb hacking site without approval (which you will not get) from infopop. Kindly read the license agreement before posting things like that.

Sorry guys, I know there's a good number of legitimate v5's out there, but they are in the small minority compared to the pirated v5's. As a group we decided it would be best to not support them any longer. There are still a few places where you can get access to v5 modifications, but this isn't one of them. We are concentrating our efforts to make v6 the best it can be and we can't do that supporting older stuff as well.
It's not an order from IP, btw. We have discussed this in our private forums several times and decided with the release of 6.02, it was time to move on... upgrade when you feel comfortable doing it, you'll be glad you did.

Allen, Would you be kind enough to compile and post a list of those places where we can go for 5.xx mods? TIA [ April 02, 2001: Message edited by: NBAustin ]

Let me see: No stable build for 6.x yet. Majority of popular hacks for 6.x still in beta Why should I upgrade? hmmm... I should not upgrade untill the time is right. After all I have access to members area till June. But what do I do for support of hacks meanwhile? I guess go to hell as suggested by many here. Sorry guys I sometimes talk to myself!

After weighing the pro's and con's, talking to other people both here and at IP, and looking over the entire situation again, we'll continue to have v5 support as long as it is available at IP for sale and download. I apologize for the inconvenience, live long and prosper...

Da nada... I apologize to Mark, Greg, CC, and the rest too, for not thinking through this a little more clearly before hand. Several things made me decide it wasn't too good a decision but we had already let the cat out of the bag...
Anyways, onward and upward...

Allen it was the most natural decision and Thanks a lot for listening to everyone. You come to the homepage of UBBDEV these days and you see http://www.midnightcafe.com as a model hacked board with all this praise. It would have been an intresting situation if midnight cafe would not be able to get any support here as they are still on 5.xx . btw That board was my pic also.
