does the version of this hack included in the zip download allow you to enter the gradient graphic in the control panel's style settings? or at least easily adjust it?

or, if you change the gradient image (that was under a different file name), do you have to go back and rework all those modifications?

No its not changable through the CP....yet

Why the hell is it like that? lol

I am missing fields as you can see and the gradient bar isn't even in the last field. Just a white spot.

Where it says "Topic Starter", it should say "Topic" and so on...and IT IS NOT MY WORDLETS!

Hi, hope I'm not treading on anyones toes here, but I have a category hack done with CP control, so all new templates will be created with it and you can have a different graphic background header in all forums now (if you want).

Once done upload your graphics to the noncgi folder and set it up by entering just the graphic name in the style templates, under the new category & forum header background entries (below the page background entry)...

UPDATED to v1.3 - you can now have different graphics for the Category and Forum Detail headers using the control panels style sheets (Separate file for upgrade instructions for v1, v1.1 & v1.2 users)

how much CP control do you have over the hack? im not sure i follow what you mean, with setting up new templates.

can you enter the heading bar gradient file name in the control panel, as if changing the image file for the title graphic?

Hi, you just add the graphic name into the new category background area in your control panel styles template. No http is needed just grad.gif, or whatever your file name is, as long as that graphic is in your noncgi folder it will show up.

What I meant by control for forums is that I added it so everytime you create a new template, the category background entry is there. So you can now create a template with a new gradient graphic and allocate it to a forum. The forum concerned will display the different graphic to the rest of the board.

When I first completed the hack, I found that creating a new template, would lose the category element, but found the needed file and added it in.

Hope it explains ita bit better.

Hi, This may sound a little stupid but....

I have done the hack and the gradiants work fine for grad and grad2 but i can't find out where the table.gif is used.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me please.

Hi, PaulG... in Dark Man X's hack you either change the grad.gif to table.gif in the hack itself to use it or change the table.gif name to grad.gif in your non-cgi folder and use it that way.

In my hack you just enter the table.gif into the styles template, Category Background input area that you are using.

I've applied your hack, but it's just not working. I see the input field in the control panel, and I can add a graphic. But the graphic doesn't show and when I go back into my template the graphic name is gone.

I just tried both hacks and they both failed on a UBB 6.01 board. There may have been some changes to the template files since you both wrote your hacks. I couldn't find exact matches for some of the strings you ask to replace in your instructions...

Dalantech, I have found that in some cases the vars_style_?.cgi files need to have this added

# find:

PageBackground => q^^,

#########
# add immediately below:

CategoryBackground => q^^,

You will find the original in your variables folder or the cgi-bin, the other vars_style_?.cgi files are in the non-cgi folder under styles.

Haven't figured out yet why they do not update with the new entry on some systems.

In he case of replacing, most entries just need the variables adding to the end of the correct

I started to add it in, and got stuck.

ok... magnum's hack changes the color for the MAIN catagories (dunno their proper name). i.e; bg graphics for the "forum, posts, topics" bar.

it also changes the bg for the sub catagories (like, on this board, "ubb v6 modifications").

is there any way to extend this to get two bgs? one for the MAIN parts (like the "forum, posts, etc") and one for the discussion sub groups (like v6 mods)

LOL drkknght, ok info/topic/posts bars (including forum threads) in one gradient and the Main page Category bars in another gradient.... can do it - I will alter the code and let you know when finished, should just be a smallish upgrade
