Trust: so you didn't upgrade to 6.2.1 correctly...
Yar: add the following code to ultimatebb.cgi, BEFORE "if ($ubb eq '') {":

OK. ignore my previous problem at the moment (everyone did anyway)
I got a new one, it stays on now more or less, BUT, when I first appear, it sez Welcome Laura at the top, but in the Whosonline bit it sez 1 guest. When I post a topic or move around, it suddenly changes to my name. Then randomly goes back to guest!
Any help?
EDIT: I just messed set RV to appear as a Category and now it vanishes again. So I reverted it, but it still vanishes. It seems to vanish about the same time it sez Guest. BTW, I am using PHP. It does work with that does'nt it?

Great job LK.
I have only 1 thing to mention: Sites with high traffic generate a massive pntf page
I had multiple members complain the page would never fully load (they were on dialups) during peak hours
190 people online generates one long page.... Is it possible to limit the number of users on one page to x and add a >>next < Ive temporarily removed the hack from my site. Since statistically only 3% of the population is on dsl/cable, I like to keep my load time as low as i can.

Hi,
works fine, but will come a SSI such as UBB 5.x/6.0x/6.1's WOL hack to display recent visitors on a shtml homepage ? Another suggestion: timer controlled autorefresh. Both features are in the old hack and it would be nice to see it here.

webwolfe: good idea, I'll add it soon...
Zarzal: 1. This hack isn't like the old WOL, it only adds the list, not the SSI, interface, or anything else.
2. Maybe, but then I'll have to use Mod CP Addon.

I followed the instructions to the letter (I think). I installed all the code, even the optional stuff at the bottom.
Here is the error I get when clicking on recent visitors.
/home/links/cgi-bin/ubb6211/ubb_pntf.cgi: Missing right curly or square bracket at /home/links/cgi-bin/ubb6211/ubb_pntf.cgi line 202, at end of line
syntax error at /home/links/cgi-bin/ubb6211/ubb_pntf.cgi line 202, at EOF
I double checked against the script and all seems to be ok. Any help appreciated.

Never mind, I am a total retard.
Just for all who may get this error, it means that the person added below on the first part of the script rather then replacing like the instructions say.
Sorry about the false alarm. Still need help with the chat one though

Got a problem with this hack. It works fine, but for some reason it causes my server to clog, and repeat the same process repeatedly. Like this (an excerpt from my server processes): quote: 518 9936 0.0 2.6 8064 6884 ? S 01:25 0:00 /usr/bin/perl ult 518 9937 0.0 1.9 6156 4972 ? S 01:25 0:00 /usr/bin/perl ult 518 9944 0.0 1.8 5804 4604 ? S 01:25 0:00 /usr/bin/perl ult 518 9945 0.0 1.8 5804 4604 ? S 01:25 0:00 /usr/bin/perl ult 518 9949 0.0 1.8 5804 4604 ? S 01:25 0:00 /usr/bin/perl ult 518 9964 0.0 1.8 5804 4604 ? S 01:26 0:00 /usr/bin/perl ult 518 9971 0.0 1.8 5804 4604 ? S 01:26 0:00 /usr/bin/perl ult 518 9975 0.0 1.8 5804 4604 ? S 01:26 0:00 /usr/bin/perl ult 518 9976 0.0 2.0 6412 5220 ? S 01:26 0:00 /usr/bin/perl cp. 518 9977 0.0 1.8 5804 4604 ? S 01:27 0:00 /usr/bin/perl ult 518 9978 0.0 1.8 5804 4604 ? S 01:27 0:00 /usr/bin/perl ult 518 9979 0.0 1.8 5804 4604 ? S 01:27 0:00 /usr/bin/perl ult 518 9981 0.0 1.8 5804 4604 ? S 01:27 0:00 /usr/bin/perl ult
And when that happens, the board will not open because those processes are blocking it from loading.
I'm positive that it is this hack because when recent visitors is unhacked the board works fine, when rv is hacked (with this mod) and rv is turned off the board works fine, but when rv is hacked and turned on the server clogs.
Any ideas what's causing this, how to fix it, or both?
Thanks!

tribe, just don't hack public_pntf_admin.pl... BTW, please change your signature to max 150x50. UDBZ, no idea, anyone else? [edit: but you can always unhack public_pntf_summary.pl, and tell people to click on "List of online users"... ]

LK, This was my original topic on the matter (I thought it was the UBB accelerator, found out later it was this hack)... it seems others are having the same/similar problems. Xpert had the same problem, but without this hack, possibly he has a similar bug as this one carries? The strangest part is that it only starts to clog when there are alot of people on my board (usually 30+), and I refresh the recent visitors page a couple times. But the problem isn't my server, because without the hack it runs smooth ( See It Here ) Qasic suggested a file locking error... any ideas?

Agreed with those who have problems when many users are online. I installed this hack on mine this AM, opened the board and had 250+ people on the boards. UBB was brought to its knees and would not load. I closed it, cleared cache, opened it, and same problem.
I removed hack, board zipped along nicely.
RedHat Linux 7.2, UBB6.2.1, more server than we need right now........

Ditto to that, this was nearly my same problem.
I wish LK wasn't so headstrong to his MS, and would pay some assistance to us smarter Unix users j/k - but it would help if you'd at least look into it LK...

I have the PNTF hack for public_pntf_summary.pl that shows me the IP's etc....I tried moving my board to an IIS 5 server tonight that I run and within 15 minutes there were 30 perl.exe's running out of control. I moved it to see if the multiple sessions were being caused by the cobalt server it's on now.
I'm going to remove the hack from that page and see what happens.

So just don't hack public_pntf_summary.pl and use the one in the ex.admin view. I will probably rewrite it soon, but the problem is that I can't test it

Ok, I have decided to rewrite it, and then I understood I don't have enough time, so... I used IP's subroutines Please rehack public_pntf_summary.pl, it should be much faster now

LK,
I must be a moron. I'm running 6.2.1 Beta 1 (I know, I know) and can't seem to find the public_pntf_admin.pl file. I'm looking in templates where I typically find the Perl stuff. Is there somewhere else I should be looking?
Thanks, your mods are great when I can figure out how to install them...

You must've forgotten to copy this file from Infopop's 6.2.1 ZIP. Yes, it's in ubb/Templates.

I'm running UBB 6.2.0 ... I don't have the public_pntf_admin.pl file either... but I'm ignoring it as you said to do on page 4...

So this isn't really compatible with 6.2.0? ... I really don't want to upgrade...

The newest version only works with 6.2.1, if you want to use the old one, I think the server computer will crash

If you don't want to upgrade, you can just upload public_pntf_admin from its zip

... well why didn't you just say that in the first place... ... but then what do I do about this issue?

... gee... it sure would be nice if somewhere in LK's archives, he had an old back up of that 6.2.0 hack that this thread orginally started out with... ....

People said the old version crashed their system...
Oh, yeah, you should also upload the new ubb_lib_pntf/ubb_pntf files after you've uploaded public_pntf_admin, and re-hack the whole hack.

Just one important feature is missing: Topics of private forums shouldn't be shown in the list. It would be grat, if you could build this too.
