Now I can ask my (probably dumb) question. laugh

Here's my situation. I've downloaded NuSphere which has Activeperl, PHP, MySQL, etc. in a single, easy-to-install, BIG file. I've installed it and can run the sample site with no problems as well as all the various test scripts so I know all the parts are working as they should. Now I just need to figure out how to get UBB running on it. I've FTP'ed myself my current board (complete with members, styles, messages, etc.) and placed the files in the folders corresponding to what would be the noncgi folder and cgi-bin on my actual server. When I try to access the control panel, for example, I get an internal server error. What do I do now?

I know this was answered in this forum already but that was for NT (or was it 2000) and I'm running Win 98. (I tried upgrading to 2000 but my CD crapped out on me :() Any help?

Ethan

Allen, Thanks for the help! I've done that step but still no luck.

Dark Templar, How do I chmod on win98? (I checked the Activeperl site but they don't really say exactly how to do it.)

You don't set permissions by CHMOD on windows systems... you right click on the folder in windows explorer, select properties, then the security tab, then set permissions for the "everyone" acct.

I'll try that when I get home. I printed out the instructions from Infopop (I had to since they've been updated as of today) but they're only for NT/2000 not 98.
Unless what you said works Allen, it looks like I'll have to find another copy of the 2000 upgrade since mine won't work. I think I can have my job pay for one for me. They owe me a bit of a bonus for a lot of extra hours I put in recently.

I tried this aswell under the exact same circumstances, and, in my case, the problem was to do with FLOCK , which stands for File Lock, it is a Perl command which 'locks' a file so that two different scripts cannot write to it at the same time as that could corrupt the file, anyways, I haven't figured out how to get it working yet, but, maybe someone here can help...

Robbie- Perl has another method, which isnt as good, but might work for you. It was used in UBB5. I dont really know exactly how it works, just that UBB5 used a different system, and it wasnt as safe as flock. I'd recommend researching this other way laugh

I just got done upgrading to 2000 so I'm going to try doing what you suggested in an earlier message in this forum Allen. BTW, did you see the tutorial that I wrote? Feel free to put it in the database if you can use it. I've gotten so much from you guys I feel like I have to contribute something even if it's not an actual hack. (Although once SHW 2.0 comes out I'll be delving into making my own!)
