Hello. I have been running a UBB (version 5.47d) for a while now for my forum only site. I was running it free off a server from the prior job I was at, but now they are telling me I have to move it. I am thus looking into hosting.
I was wondering if you could tell me about how much bandwidth UBB uses per month. Currently I run about 6,000 impressions daily, and expect that to increase six fold shortly when I relaunch the forums (that will be about 1.1 million impressions per month).
I am basically looking into what to expect and what type of hosting plans I should look into. Where I am at I do not have a measurement for bandwidth.
Thank you for your time. Here is some info on my UBB so you can have more information to deturmine the numbers:
- Version: UBB 5.47d - Searches allowed for only 1 forum at a time - Index Files For Each Forum - Linux server
Also, if you have some tips for bandwidth decreasing, I would appreciate it.
Thanks.

It all depends on how many active members you have.

Well, right now I have 419 registered and about 300 unique daily hits.
I have tracking on every page, (even the 'thank you for replying' page). I have right now about 6000 total hits per day. I am expecting to increase to around 50,000 per day soon (1.1 million to 1.5 million total monthly impressions).

I have made a deal with a network of sites to be their official message boards. Those numbers are estimates from their current sites and forums traffic.

So, can anyone help with the bandwidth question? I was told by the webmaster at MikePortnoy.com ( http://www.mikeportnoy.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi) that they get 10,000 page views a day for the forums and use 60-75GB a month. To me that sounds high, but it might be the case.

I don't know about bandwidth. But if you need lots of webspace and all the bandwidth you can handle go here Cheap Web Hosting . These guys are some of the cheapest out there for what they offer. Hope this helps some and saves ya som money.

How many users do you think you'll have online at one time? If it's more than about 40, then you aren't gonna be able to get on a virtual hosting account. You'll start to slow down the server and your host will give you the option of either cancelling your account or switching to a dedicated server.
I'd say you should be safe with about 30gigs of transfer a month easily. I have a racing site that I run, granted this particular one is not on ubb but I get around 500,000 page views a month 15gigs of bandwidth. The board i'm running is mysql based on this particular site and usually has around 25-30 online at one time.

Ok, thanks.
I am not sure how many people will be online at one time. It will be big though due to the deals I am making. I will also be able to try to get sponsors to pay for usage, but I have to soak the cost initially.
What is the racing site you run?

And it's also against Hypermarts TOS to run a UBB on their server.

Hi,
Since you're on a UNIX server right now and using UBB 5.x series, I'll recommend you getting your host to install mod_gzip on your server to drastically reduce bandwidth.
