I have a regular poster, a member of my forum, and suddenly he can't post anymore. He is having some kind of login problem. Does anyone know what might be the cause? I asked him to describe the problem in detail and describe his computer setup:
"The problem surfaced for the first time this morning. Usually it brings up a screen which has my password saved on it....this morning it didn't. But it sometimes doesn't at other times, so I wasn't concerned. I just logged in and went to post.
"It told me I wasn't logged in, and I had to log in first.
"I went to the login screen and logged in again.
"It thanked me for loggin in in that field, but told me outside the field that I was not logged in and should either login or register.
"I tried telling the forum I'd lost my password. It said it couldnt find them.
"I tried to reregister. It said I was already registered.
"I tried again from login with the same results.
"I tried again to reregister with all my current info.
"It told me I was already registered.
"And so on. I log off...log on.....reboot....power down....delete cookies.....nothing seems to help.
"aol is my Isp. I have an etower 366c, which has a Cyrix M II, 366mmx (pentium ii equivalent) 32 MB SyncDRAM/512 KB L2 pb cache, 3.2 GB Harddrive, 32x MAX CDRom drive, 56k (v.90 compatible ) Data/fax modem, Windows 98 (works bundled), ATI 3d rage IIc AGP Graphics with 4MB SDRAM."

If you know his Member number, Go into your FTP and look at his Member file, It might be blank or something wrong with it so check.

Thank you but all of his member information appears to be intact.

Was there ever any resolution to this?
I am seeing this occasionally on our board. We have a user who has not been able to log in all week. I can log in and post from my PC's as the user, I have validated all his info is correct. The user reloaded IE6, cleared his cache, did all the normal things yet he still cannot log in. He still gets the "You are not logged in" msg quoted above. I do not know yet which OS he is using.
Any suggestions?

The user I was working with solved the problem. He did clear all cookies, cleared his cache, reinstalled IE6, went through a thousand other gyrations. He tried to log in after each action w/ no luck. For some inexplicable reason, he changed the time on his machine and his problem was fixed. Probably pure coincidence, but I have no other explanation. And I fear I'll never get one.
