I currently have ver 6.04 Over the years I have upgraded to many different versions and many different hacks. My problem is that I don't remember which files are for what now. So I would like to delete all the the files and all directorys but I don't want to lose member info or forums. Templates are no big deal. I would like to back up my forums and members and settings. Then delete all the files in the directorys install Ver 6.1(When it is out of beta) And reload all my members and forums. My problem is I don't know which files I should copy before I attempt this.I looked at infopop on moving a ubb but it does not address this issue. Any suggestions?

You dont want to overwrite any of the var files. I don't know if you are going to overwrite anything in your noncgi directory (except templates) because that folder has alot to save as well.

If you want to return the files to normal just upload the clean un-hacked files for your cgi-bin directory. (NOT the variable ones) and the Template files.

What I am tying to do is find a way to delete all unnecessary files and directories. I would like to wipe all the directories and files and start over. Then reset all settings and upload my preserved posts and members. Since I can't locate a file structure for ver6 I am not sure what can be deleted without looking at each file one by one.

You can delete all files not inside your Members directory in your ubb cgi directory, and delete your Templates folder, then replace the files with clean unmodified ones, you will have to redo all your settings tho... depends on how far you want to start over on which of your vars files you should keep... most likely you'll wanna keep:
vars_forums.cgi vars_config.cgi vars_mods.cgi vars_display.cgi vars_email.cgi vars_style_sets.cgi vars_template_match.cgi vars_misc.cgi
the others it most likely wouldn't hurt to replace from clean files...
