Hi all,

I'm real new to this stuff. I just got my test board up 6.1.0.3 registered and I'm woundering if anyone knows of a images hack (not sure what t call it) that allows a user to post a image with their message (along side it) and it turns it into a thumbnail then when pressed is enlarged. I've seen it on an older ubb board 5.46 and would like to do the same.

Welcome, I haven't seen this for any version

The board I saw it on is CannabisWorld. This link will take you to their picture area where individuals can upload within there posts:

I'm not sure if they hacked it themselves or what but it's a neet feature. You could use it for other things like your own pic, or say an item you want to show for sale, etc.

Ah yes, here it is. This is the UBB Attachment File Manager (AFM) v1.60 . Use at your own risk.

And here is an excerpt from the readme:

WHAT THIS HACK DOES...
- allows users to upload all file types to a personal directory on your server
- a single attachment is automatically created that links to all files just uploaded
- the attachment is appended to your message in a similar manner to signatures
- checks username, password, write permission before allowing to upload
- automatically uses your style settings
- automatically creates an upload and log directory for each user (that attempts to upload if permitted)
- allow users to view / delete their files
- allows admin to control:
- Attachments On/Off
- Group Restrictions
- file type allowed if "all" not allowed
- max files per upload,
- max files in directory
- allow users to view / delete their files
- restrict file size being uploaded

If you get around to it and look at it, please let me know. I'm really green at this stuff and after printing it out I decided to start working on it and already got stuck. Its also my first attempt at any hack.

When I was looking at modifying "Custom ATTACHMENT Variables" [Pathways] it said open your modified UltBB.setup file. I guessed it to be ubb_setup.cgi but I couldn't find the text as the instructions showed.

Anyway, if and when you look at it, please send some direction my way. I'd really appreciate it..

I'm no expert in previous versions of UBB (well not that I am with the current version either, anyway... )

it'll need to be ported to UBB 6.1.0.3 if you want it to work

Anybody concider porting this to 6.1? It would be really awsome addition...

I don't have an actual thumbnailer, but I use a "thumb" command to let people post pics at a size I setup (300x400) on my board and when you click on the pic the fullsize version opens in a new window. You can see a demo here...

I'm not sure if this is what you're after, and it doesn't maintain the original aspect ratio. I just wanted a way to clean up threads with large images in them.

Its a differant board BUT this is what I want to do.

the images aren't actual thumbnails, just reduced in height and width versions of the same larger image... 100x100 looks like.

Yeah, a thumbnail wouldn't require the entire image to be downloaded to view it like the one I use does.

Easy to make, no attachment needed or thumpnail.
Just modify Qasic's avatar add on. I wait for qasic's permisson to place the instructions.

But when you click on one of these images it opens another window and enlarges the pics. This dosn't have to be a thumbnail to do this?

it just resizes them.. right click on the properties of any image and view its info, you are downloading the full image when you download the thumbnail.

Hate to bring this topic from the dead but..

Has anyone ported the hack to 6.1.0.3?
Or has anyone modified the avatar upload hack to do what Variables was saying?

I REALLY need a way for users to upload pics, and ELY_M's upload hack keeps uploading blank pictures on my BB

ELY_M's upload works good. I did experience a couple days where I thought it uploaded blank images, and it did! Images were uploaded but wouldn't show.

It turned out that the partition of my linux server my images were stored in was full. Once I made more room and re-uploaded my images, they worked fine. You may want to check this.
