I've given some users moderator status. It shows in their profile, but when they post it still says Member under their name.

Change their custom statuses to "Moderator," and it should work.

I have seen a quick hack that accomplishes the same thing automatically. Search the beta forum for it.

Go to your cp then maintenance - manage custom title/ranks.
scroll down till you see "Custom Rank for Mods" next to that in the box paste this Moderator

FYI, that won't work unless you had applied Jimbo previously and the instruction listed in Jimbo's FAQ.
