I have ubb 6.05 and am very pleased with it. However I have been speaking with some consultants who are telling methat when my board reaches 20-30,000 members the flat file ubb will start to get REALLY slow and become unusable. My board is at 15,000 right now and Im gettin worried as I dont really want to switch to a db driven solution like vBulletin. Any comments on this subject are much appreciated!

One more thing...The guy who set this board up for me used an avatar hack from www.ubbdesign.com, which works pretty good. However when we attempted to upgrade UBB to the latest version, and reapply the hack we were out of luck as it didnt take at all. This is unrelated but if anyone has specifics on this situation, we would be willing to pay for help. Please respond here if you have any comments: thusum@shaw.ca

THANKS

I know some fast UBBs with 40,000 members, it depends on your host.

About the avatar hack thing, try JC's 6.1.0 version.

Ya I guess the real problem is to somehow parse the user files I have and apply the avatar string into JC's hack. I dont want everyone to have to reselect their avatar.

Hi,

The advice you're getting could also be very biased. For e.g., if you use Aletia Hosting (like I do), they prefer you to have a PHP/MySQL based bulletin board instead of a Perl/MySQL board. But then, my whole site (qasic.net) is based on a Perl/MySQL backend and they've had no problems for 5 months now.

In general, however, the advice you're getting _is_ true but instead of switching to vB, you may want to consider Infopop's PHP/MySQL solution - UBBThreads. Current UBB users can upgrade their license to UBBThreads for only $75. Quite good in fact.

JC is a very good individual in the UBB community. If you reach him @ UBBDesign.com, I'm sure he can help you out with your avatar problem.
