I posted this in the UBB Support Forum, but the only answer I've gotten is to do what I've already done, again. I just upgraded our board from 6.0 to 6.1.0.4. We're running on Unix/Apache w/ /usr/local/bin/perl. Our URL is http://www.stovebolt.com/bboard/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi The board seems to be working fine, but I'm getting two errors in the Control Panel, in the Primary Settings area. In Miscellaneous Settings, I'm getting this error message: quote: "Can't find string terminator '"' anywhere before EOF at /usr/home/v1/a0009096/html/bboard/ubb/Templates/cp_vars_misc.pl line 77."
In the Registration Settings, I'm getting this error message: quote: "Can't find string terminator "THISFIELD" anywhere before EOF at /usr/home/v1/a0009096/html/bboard/ubb/Templates/cp_vars_registration.pl line 83."
In both cases I have replaced both the templates and the vars files to no avail. I've pored over the code looking for missing delimiters and haven't found any.
Any suggestions as to where to look for this error would be gratefully appreciated.

What modifications have you done that affect those files?

Thanks for answering, Allen. I haven't made any modifications other than those that can be made *through* the CP, and none of those were made after the upgrade.
What really confuses me is that I can't find any missing string delimiters or bad code in either file. There must be another file involved, but I don't know which one it is.

Paste the lines here where the errors are coming from. That might help...

OK. Here's line 77 of the cp_vars_misc.pl file: quote: &RegField("String Length Limit", "stringLengthLimit", "yes", "3", "4", "The maximum number of characters that should be allowed before a space is inserted. This should only be altered if your users are posting extremely long URLs, or if you are using a multi-byte character set and are receiving corrupted characters.", "$vars_misc{stringLengthLimit}");
And here's line 83 of the cp_vars_registration.pl file: quote: print <

Well, I'm lost, but it's fixed. I downloaded the full install the other day, and I thought I had uploaded those two template files to the server, but when I uploaded them today, they fixed the problem.
Earlier this evening I had edited the vars files by hand, so apparently there was something amiss in those files??
Anyway, it's fixed. Thanks for trying to help.
