How do you do the side bar? Is there a setting for it? Is it a Hack?

Neither - it't a Header / Footer table.  For a sidebar on the left, place this in your header:
This is your left sidebar - do with it what you will.

hey I used this and well I ran into a problem it displays this either on the top of the page or on the bottom ...
