I had the UBBDEV guys do the upgrades on my UBB 6.05 awhile back. I had the "Who's Online? v4.0.0 for UBB6 by Elliott (Borg) Brady" and the "Custom User Title/Rank for UBB5 by Jimbo" hacks installed.

I am moving hosts and need to move my UBB with it. I am also wanting to ungrade to UBB 6.3 before or after the move (before would be better, no?).

I am not that good at following technical directions. However, I think I can handle the directions listed here: http://www.infopop.com/support/ubbclassic/UBB6_backup_transfer.html

The questions or concerns that I have are...

1. What extra measures do I need to take to keep the hacks working during the upgrade?
2. What extra measures do I need to take to keep the hacks working during the transfer?
3. If I do a new install of 6.3 onto the new server (and get it all working correctly), would moving be easier? For instance, could I then upgrade the current forum, and then just move over a couple files to keep my posts, members, hacks, etc?

upgrading form 6.05 to 6.3 will mean losing all hacks, sorry man, but i can provide some more help then that .

if you move the 6.05 and want to keept he hacks working after you upload make sure you update the paths to the files if the hack needs you to set paths in the cp, closing the board, dosing this, then moving is the best way to go about it, while moving make sure you update your paths to cgi and non cgi so they will work on the new server. as for your last question, it will save you alot of time just upgrading your 6.05 before or after the move insted of trying to import files into a new install, if you have hacks that added extra feilds to the member files make sure you download the program form infopop to strip them out frist, but back up the member files to your comp before you do this. hope that helps

Anyway, I should have mentioned this when I posted, but it did not cross my mind until now...
I am moving my website, UBB, and domain name. The new server is from the same host, and same operating system (Unix). Once the move is complete, the same URL will access the same pages/areas of the website. The directories that the UBB is in on the old server, will be identical on the new server.
Likewise, the path to perl, rootweb, Members Directory, cgi-bin, and all other directories will be the same.

See, I wouldn't even be moving, but I need to move to a new box (upgraded cobolt from raq3 to raq4). Everything else will (or should be if luck is with me) be the same as before.

I can live without upgrading the forum from 6.05 to 6.3, if I can keep the hacks. Really, I just want to have the forums running just as they are now, but on the new server.

*New Question*
1. Now, with the above information, is there a way for me to move the files from one server to the next? If I copied all the files over in ascii or binary as needed, and then chmod them correctly, do I need to do anything else?

as long as the direct paths to everything remain the same as before it sould be a simple upload and chmod.
