I was having problems with people posting new topics in my forum so I decided to clean it up a little bit. I went to the Control Panel, cleaned the CACHE, Prune posts and did some other stuff that I really had no idea what function it had but I did it.
Today, I realized the 800+ users I had dissappeared! The link that shows the last registered user was restarted and now I've started all over again from 0, but the worst part is that it deleted all my users and now the old posts are being taken by the people who's suscribing right now (like I was #1, but now my posts have the nickname of the person who got that number when all the users were deleted)
Even worst, I can't enter the Control Panel because my user doesn't exist anymore. I tried doing it with one of the moderators (which have changed too) but still didn't work.
If any of you guys could please help me, I'd really apparciate it.
Thanks a lot, Aaron

im sorry to inform you that your members are gone for good unless you have a back up, sorry , the reason the old post are becoming thoese of new registered members is ubb finds the user names by member #'s and stores the member files by member #'s, to re acess your CP reg a new acount for yourself, go to ftp and find your member file (in the cgi/members), they are listed by #. once you find your acount open it in any text editor and change line 4 or 5 (i forget which) to Write&Admin. i think that will work but i cant look at my files right now, im sure if it dosent someone else will know.

How did this stuff up? What did you install to make this happen? It couldn't have just happened...

Happened on my board couple of months ago. Was running v6.0.3 at the time, no modifications made, only ran the rebuild functions and pruned some forums.
I never figured out what caused it, so I started from scratch.

well, that and you said you did some things that you didn't know the function for Register as a user, then ftp your member file to your pc. Open in a text editor and change line #5 to: WriteAdmin& re-upload in ascii and you should be able to enter your control panel as an admin. Infopop has some nice tutorials for new admins: http://www.infopop.com/support/ubbclassic/

AA, I opened the files with NotePad, modified the line for WriteAdmin& of several users, used their logins and passwords and I'm still getting the same thing!
FYI Sorry, you are not an administrator or moderator, so you may not gain access to the control panel.
Can I try something else?

Make sure line 9 is "Administrator" and not "Member" or "Junior Member"

Does the UBB check both those lines? I only thought the first one.

Please take time right now to figure out a backup strategy. It is never a bad idea and can prevent this kind of disaster in the future.
