UBB.Developers Forums UBB.threads 7 Development How Do I? last post

Hi

I am trying to do something a little complicated. On the front page of most UBBs, forums are listed together with the title of the last posting, who it was by, and when it was posted. It is a nice automated feature in my opinion and I would like to reference it elsewhere in my web site.

I am by no means clued-up in perl and cgi, and want to create a headline-style feature which takes its text from the latest posting in a forum. Given that the page will be an .shtml file, I suspect that the headline should be referenced within a server-side include as well and so need to work out a way of copying and modifying a UBB script to simply print the headline of the last posting such that all other formatting is defined by me elsewhere.

Has anyone ever done this before?

You might try looking at the "latest threads" modification by dj casual for this. Most of the work has been done I believe.

v6.4 will have something similar as well

I am using UBB v 6.04c and so when it came to following through djcasual's method, I came to the part where he mentions modifying var_latest_threads_1.cgi from the Latest_Threads dir which doesn't seem to exist on my version !

That file is part of the hack.

will the latest hack work on the my older UBB?

The one for 6.3?

Use the 6.x version, because it's supposded to be installed on 6.x.

From memory the link to that one didn't work though - is there another location it is downloadable from?

Before I posted on here, I also posted on community.infopop.net and someone there said the following which doesn't mean a lot to me . . .

I'll give you the file format of lastnumber.file but you're on your own for writing a script to extract the relevant information. The people at UBBDev might be able to help..

BTW, it might work with 6.04 as well... But that's not guaranteed.

ha ha, that's a bit of an outlay though!

I can't upgrade now without paying as it is over a year since I bought the UBB.

Anyhow, you can also ask Infopop to send you the latest available version that was available before your license expired. This hack works with 6.2 for sure, and probably with 6.1

I can't try it on the previous version because the link to download the latest threads hack for the previous version does not work.
