I have a members database that is customized so I hacked registration, etc to do that. I understand from the forums (not from the upgrade directions!) that I need to do something or the customization will be blown. The 4 fields that they give us in version 6 are sufficient to cover our needs, but I want to be sure that the old users convert and work ok.

What does it mean to "strip the custom fields" before upgrading?

I am sorry if this has been answered before, but I'm getting error messages out of the search function on the forums.

Thanks,
Marianne confused

welcome Marianne

There is a deletehacklines.pl file by CopyCat buried in the chit chat forum in a thread titled something like "v6 revealed". Should be at the top of page 3 or 4 in that thread. Run it right before you upgrade your site. It will strip the excess profile fields from your v5 setup. Your members will have to update their profiles after you get the new ones setup.

lemme know if you have more questions.

PS, if it were me, I'd be upgrading to 6.1.0, it's a nicer script with better performance and more built-in features smile

Allan,

I was hoping to go to 6.1 but it's still in beta. I need to do the upgrade this weekend -- then it probably won't be touched again for a while. Would you just recommend going with the current beta software?

hmmm... yeah, if you aren't planning on adding a lot of modifications, I'd use 6.1 if Public Beta 1.2 or Public Beta 2 were released by then, I'd check before I uploaded the files. It's up to you, but 6.1 is worth waiting for.
