My 6.1.02 is finally installed but it is so slow that it just hangs half the time. I pretty much uploaded nearly every file from a full copy after upgrading to same my members and conferences but it is so bogged down that the pages won't even load.

If I delete vars_config.cgi then refill in the data on the opening screen it will run fast for 5 minutes then bog down again. I even deleted nearly all of the vars files and filled them in one a time but it still hangs after a few minutes. I rebuilt all the stat and forum and member files but it still as like a snail.

Any ideas what the problem is?? THe rest of my site is fine so it's not the servers,

Is your server Windows or Linux ? Also what does feel slow ? the threads and posts or the ubb alltogether ?

Do you believe in love at first sight,
or should I walk by again?

The entire ubb is slow. It's on a Unix and the rest of the site is fine so I know it's not the server, here are a couple of the errors it gives:

Error
An error has occured:

Undefined subroutine &main::WriteUserSession called at
/www/htdocs/domains/s2/00308/www.letsgokings.com/webdocs/cgi/ubb_forum.cgi
line 112.

Please inform the board administration of this error so that they may fix
the problem. Thank you!

-----------------

and

-----------------

Undefined subroutine &main::GetOnlineUsers called at /www/htdocs/domains/s2/00308/www.letsgokings.com/webdocs/cgi/ubb_forum_summary.cgi line 13.

-----------------

What's weird is that if I delete vars_config.cgi and refil in the paths on the opening page thenit will go fast again for 5 minutes before bogging down.

I picked up a clean full install version of UBB and copied all of the templates and cgi files from it and it still crawls so slow that it won't load. I restored the original vaes_config.cgi but it's still sluggish as hell.

Any ideas on what I can do??

I've been deleting the cache and it seems to speed it up. I turned off the cache but it keeps caching anyways.

--------
Update I just tried this again and it doesn't work any more.

-------------

Iput all new files on except for the forums and the members so it's got to be something in there.

I have poll-it on the front page and it works fine

I just loaded newspro and it popped right up.

The guys at Infopop said to just let it come up to speed and quit tinkering with it. Now it;s gotten slower and won't even load a page.

Great support!

I noticed even your new clean install is running slow. It must be something with the way you're installing it.

Have you opened a support ticket with InfoPop? If not, e-mail me and I can try and help you out too. eek

Yep, they said that ubb 6.1 has problems have problems with Earthlink servers. I guess I have to go back to 6.05 and when that gets outdated, go to Vbulletin or another program that will work.

If vB runs on Earthlink, that means Earthlink has PHP, which means you can use the UBB Accelerator, which should alleviate this entire problem.

(However, IIRC, Earthlink has neither PHP nor MySQL....)

Earthlink servers have problems with flock. I discovered this while playing with WOL's record book on Rinkrat's server.

The new locking scheme is wrecking havoc on Earthlink servers probably.
