I'm getting ready to do the same thing within the next few days. I know that the "path to Perl" is important, and something that I'm concerned about in some of the hacks. I'm also a total no0bie when it comes to *nix, and make my living as a Sr. Systems Engineer. This should be a great adventure.
If I make the change before you do I'll help you in any way that I can, once I'm successful that is.

souldent be to hard. just upload, chmod (the zip will tell ya how) and set your paths to perl for ubb and any hacks u have installed.
xpert its not that diff, all hacks ive seen that would have problems are unix ones that dont work on nt, ive never seen a hack that works on nt that doset work on unix, has for the path to perl mine is (just for example) /usr/local/plesk/apache/vhosts/ceanime.com/cgi-bin/ubb

I realise that about the hacks, and I plan to use SR32 to find and adjust the paths. SR32 is a kick butt product by the way if you've never used it. I know that there are times where case sensitivity plays a role, and I may have made serious sloppy mistakes in my own hacks that work fine under IIS but will blow up on a *nix server. I'll know as soon as I upload and set the permissions. It's not like I'm lazy about code, it's just another challenge and learning experience.
