The install process was going perfectly right up until the point where I go to the cp and click on the "click here" link to set up an administrator account, i got this error
d:/perl/htdocs/ubb/cache-8DL4SPX3/ubb_files/counter/2001-12.cgi: Expected to write out 1 bytes, but file on disk is only 0!]
Here is the backtrace:

anybody know what would have caused that ?

Sounds like a permissions problem... upload your ubb6_test.cgi and check the permissions on your different directories...
