dear members,

i have two questions to ask you:

1- How can i hide the file vars_config.cgi ?
As i know, this file MUST be on CGI directory, otherwise the UBB don't work! The problem is, that this file must have permission of 777, so.. anybody can see it, or change it. How can i change this situation?

2- How can i encript member passwords? Some passwords were stolen from by boards, because the 777 permissions of some files which are required by ubb !!!

Please give me some information about this..
thanks in advance.

You could store these files above your public web directory (usually htdocs or public_html), or you could store them on a different drive completely.

tks for quick answer!

I tryed to put those files above the web directory, but there are 3 files i couldn't put it there!

vars_config.cgi
vars_graemlins.cgi
vars_versions.cgi

if these files aren't on CGI directory, my board won't work!

Why shoudn't it work?

I have other question please: My server administrator has changed MAIL server settings, now it is required authentication when sending mail. How can i set up my board to keep sending email to members ? (like registration confirmation and topic replys)

I'm running Linux Slackware 7, with sendmail
Tks in advance

You have to edit ultimateb.cgi and cp.cgi if you locate vars_config.cgi outside of cgi-bin. There's a note about this in those files.
