More than likely the worm didn't originate from him but from in fact someone else who has these people in their address book. All the most prolific worms today forge the from e-mail addresses and instead use someone's that is in the infected users address book. This method prevents people from informing the infected user thus keeping the worm in the wild longer.
You should remind everyone on your community to update their anti-virus programs and to also visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com to download all the Service Packs and critical updates available. Over 90% of these worms utilize an exploit that has been fixed over a year and a half ago -- many people have still not updated!
