Is there a hack for the user to set an option for them to recive an e-mail everytime someone replys to a message they posted?

If you're talking about E-Mail notification with new topics, it's stock in everything 6.2 and above (as far as I can remember).

It it stock only for the topic started to enable this so they can receive email notifications, there is a hack in the database which will allow people who reply to a thread to get email notifications also!
I can't afford a good signature editor
