I hate square bullets, really, I freakin' despise them, but that's all my board seems to want to display when I use them.
How can I correct this situation, so we have nice solid little round bullets..?

alter your CSS settings for your unordered-list bullet style.
Example:
ul {list-style-type: disc;}
