Oh my. Okay, I set about upgrading my board earlier this evening. All things were going great guns--until I tried to do mass moves of threads so that I could combine forums. I went to update the search index--and in one of the forums, it starts out, but then stalls. And then, after I updated member post histories and went back to my board, I had massive amounts of ERRORS! They weren't there before I tried the freakin' moves! The first error message reads: Line 30 Char 1 Error FDRmaxLoops is undefined Code 0 URL http://adwoff.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi Then I get something like 20 additional errors! They go something like this: Line 474 char 1 error tfrm is undefine Code 0 URL http://adwoff.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi Line 536 char 1 error dfrm is undefined Code 0 URL http://adwoff.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi And then it continues on -- going back & forth between tfrm & dfrm! Would someone please explain to me what is going on and how I might fix it? Please?!

Hey Sue First, start with un-modified files and go from there... be sure whatever number of profile fields you are using is set correctly in both places in ubb_lib_files.cgi Run the upgrade link again and then let's see if the errors persist.

But, but, but Allen! Everything was FINE until I did that stoooooooooopid mass move thingie! If I go into the ubb_lib_files.cgi file and bump up the profile fields, will I be able to keep my avatar information? I sure hope so.

Well, Gizzy, I've been running all these mods on my test site for several weeks now, and not a problem. Let's see -- I have Mod_wordlets smilies calendar post index quick reply megamod ubb advanced code message icon pulldown custom rank/status news fader PM folders mod addon zap post counts spoiler pretty polls And I did some cosmetic things to the public directory, templates, etc. Like I said--everything seemed to be running okay on my test site--although I am concerned about my accelerator working ... When I did the upgrade tonight, everything was working "perfectly"--until I decided to do the mass move and combine a couple forums. It was after I tried to do that & rebuild indexes, etc.--that I went back to the front page and had error messages up the gazoo.

did you retry to build the same indexes? If they're incomplete they may throw errors

I'll try reinstalling each hack one at a time and see what happens. Thanks.

it sounds like it's the index and not the modifications that are the problem. Does it rebuild any of the index or does it give you a white screen immediately?

So it's definitely the index files for that forum. You can open a support ticket at infopop if you like.
Try this, download the index files to your computer to keep a backup (for that forum). Delete them from the site (that forum only), and rebuild from the cp.. you should be ok then.

Allen or anyone else--would this index problem be the reason I occasionally get a blank white page when I'm trying to access new posts? Unfortunately, these "white pages" are happening in a variety of places--but mostly when I click on links in the ACTIVE TOPICS. Also, where do I locate these "index files" to back them up? I swear, I never had any "bugs" with my test board (well, except for one ) ... trying to do that mass move last night has caused nothing but headaches for me.

possibly, I was wondering just now how this turned out. The index files are in your forums folder Forum1 Forum2 etc. It will say something like forum1.threads, forum_thread_data_000.cgi and so forth.

LOL ... Allen, I'm about ready to tear my hair out! Not only do I have the issue of white pages, but we're also experiencing problems with slow page loads. Unfortunately, I have a full work day today and tonight (I've picked up a second job ), so I won't be able to address these issues until tomorrow at the earliest (if then). Are the slow page loads due to an accelerator issue or bad hack or just plain bad luck.

hard to tell with what's going on already The best thing to do is begin with clean files, make sure it's running well, then add your modified files back in. A working, unmodified forum is *much* preferred by users than a nicely modified, non-working forum

Thanks, Allen. I'm hoping to play with it tonight to "fix it."
I have another question. I went into the forum folders to backup the index files like you suggested ... I saw a file I've never seen before ...
Can anyone tell me what a .wer file is?
In one forum, it says 000001.wer
In another, there are two; they say 000116.wer and 000186.wer
Not all forums have this file, either.

I have a quick question ... I'm trying to compare files to see what I may have copied/modified that is different, and in the vars_config.cgi file, I see this:

The test board uses the ! mark instead of the ~ I have no idea if one is important over the other, but it is a difference, so I thought I'd ask. A "simple fix" would be a gift from heaven!

Well, Gizzy, I've been so busy since I installed the upgrade, that I haven't had a chance to explore the problem/causes of the white pages.
My members said that they'd tolerate them until I could--since I'll hopefully have a window of opportunity starting on Sunday, I'm going to take another look at it.
One thing we have discovered--if a white page comes up (it doesn't necessarily "white out" the entire thread--just pages), one can click on the "Printer-friendly view of this topic" and see all the posts.
So they are there--it's just a matter of figuring out why some of the pages turn into "white-outs."

Well, I think I know what the problem is ... I examined a smaller file today that generated a "white page" and I saw that instead of all of the information for that post being on "one line"--it was broken and put on two or more. Does that make sense? It seemed to happen the most whenever anyone quoted (whether using the button or using reply w/quote), the broken line would appear ... or when lengthy posts were made, the broken line would appear. I think, but I'm not 100% positive, that it is happening because of the ADVANCED UBB INSTANT CODE I installed. I used old an old hack from 6.3 and installed it into my 6.5.0 board, and when it worked okay on my test site (and still seems to be working there), I figured it was "good to go." The only thing I can figure with my main board is that the amount of traffic/posting causes the files to go "funky." So I am going to rehack it w/out the ADVANCED UBB INSTANT CODE and then hope & pray one of you can help me get this hack compatible with 6.5.0 ... the natives at my board really, really like all them bells & whistles.

Thanks for the support, guys. I think I'm figuring it all out (except for the search index deal ) I have another funky question ... in the ubb_lib.cgi file, there are lines of code like this:

See the ending? The "eisg" ... some of the lines end with "eisg" and some end with "isg" ... it seems to me that they should ALL end with "isg" Can anyone confirm this for me? Thanks.

Each of those letters means a different thing to the regex.
g - process the regex over the entire string rather than matching once then stopping
i - match without regard to case
s - make "." match all characters, including newlines (which it does not normally match)
e - execute the right side of the expression like it should contain code
The reason that particular line has /e at the end is due to the fact that it's running the &urlize sub. Those that don't call code can't use e.
UBB.classic: Love it or hate it, it was mine.

LOL, PT, yes and no! First, Charles gave me the "fix" for the search indexing problem. I'm glad it was something relatively minor to do. Second, I did reinstall the board--and save the more "difficult" hacks for the end so that if I ran into conflicts, I could easily remove those hacks. For example, for some reason or another, I have problems with the Quick Reply hack. I decided to install it without any of the registration info; when I tried out the hack, the infamous "white pages" occurred. So I thought, HMMMMMM ... I'm not going to have it installed right now (because I want to get the board up & running). So I uninstalled it. Yesterday, I worked on some cosmetic changes (like different positions for the moderators, etc.) ... this morning, I did the indexing fix that Charles recommended. I also uploaded the changes for separating the forums/posts. Now, this afternoon, as I'm posting, I notice that the Quick Reply box is there--albeit, missing some info. I'm like I'm beginning to think my board either has a mind of its own or someone is playing some kind of a game with me. I mean, I removed this hack. For the past two days, it hasn't been there. Now it is. How freakin' weird is that? Something strange is going on--something that I need to get to the bottom of ... In the meantime, the white pages (knock on wood) are gone; the search feature is working ... and I only have a couple more changes to make and then I ain't touching the board for another 100 years or so! Thank you to everyone here for your support and encouragement! It is greatly appreciated.

Wicked this way comes Quick Reply's ghost! I have no clue to your problem but I am glad to hear that the white pages are gone...Well, for now anyway.
