Hmm...You could try Sticky 1.5 for 6.xx. You can find it here: Click Here Then look for UBB 6.0x Mods.

looks a bit too complicated for me atm I noticed that the link for the Multihack Sticky 1.5 is down. Is there anywhere else I can find Multihack files for 6.1?

Uhm, 6.5 includes Featured Topics, which are sticky...

Well 6.5 is all well and good but I'm not about to upgrade and ruin everything after I've spent a week getting it up and running Anyway, I was up 2 hours last night adding sticky topics manually. So I guess I'm learning something.

There are signifigant architectural differences between 6.1 and 6.5... you shouldn't try to install any hacks for 6.4+ on a 6.1 board... the APIs just aren't there...

ok, so am I right in thinking that 6.5 is now called 'classic'? Or is it a different flavour all together.

Just a name change I believe to distinguish between UBB Threads (PHP) and UBB Classic (Perl). Upgrading would be a good bet since the newer versions also resolved many of the security issues of past versions, not to mention some of the features such as Recent Visitors (replacing Who's Online), PM, Content Islands (site intergration), Sticky... Since there isn't too many 6.5 hacks now you'll still be able to use all 6.4 as well as previous version hacks with some modification to the hack files.

The upgrade itself is easier now then ever...With one click everything will rebuild for you. Just upload the new cgi-bin, non-cgi, Templates and images files. You will need some Vars files such as (vars_ci.cgi). Whatever you do, DO NOT replace any vars files or Members and Forum directories. If you do all of your settings, memberlist and forums will no longer exist.
Unfortunately you're hacks will go along with an upgrade.
