Okay ... I'm trying to upgrade from 6.5.0 to 6.7.1 ... and I THINK I've uploaded all the files correctly ... I click on the magic button to begin the upgrade process ... Script files okay Template files okay And then ... what I hate MOST ... A WHITE PAGE! It happens at this path --> http://adwoff.com/cgi-bin/cp.cgi?ub...ons,upgrade_confirm&msg=upgrade_confirm& Am I missing something?!

*sigh*
I have no idea what is going on.
I've never had this kind of a problem with an upgrade before.
I have gotten to the point where it reaches the updating of the member metadata files (think that's what it's called) ... it gets to about 4000, and then goes to a white page.
I refresh, and it continues on a couple more refreshes ... and then it goes to a white page and STAYS a white page.
I uploaded all the files again.
I checked the chmod. Unless I'm missing something, I believe I have the regular .cgi files at 755 and the vars files at 777
I honestly don't know what to do ... I'm extremely frustrated right now.
I never, EVER expected to NOT be able to install the upgrade. If I had any idea I'd have this kind of a problem, I wouldn't have started my upgrade the night before Easter ... denying my members access for longer than necessary.
If there are any night owls out there who have any ideas what might be going on, please either respond to this thread or PM me.
I'm going to continue to try to figure out what is going on.
I have put in a support ticket with Infopop, but with the holiday, I don't expect any kind of a response until Monday at the earliest ...

I did that, Gizzy! I'm hopeful, however, that I don't have to wait that long.

Okay ... I have question for those of you out there today ... who might be able to give me some guidance. I am still having problems with the upgrade process; it basically goes through to the point of the rebuilding the first forum's metadata, and then it *dies.* So what I did was go through each forum, and one by one, I rebuilt each forum's metadata ... and then I did the Rebuild User Subscription Index for the entire board. I think this is *everything* that the upgrade encompasses, isn't it? In the administration view, I am able to see my board. When I go back to the CP, of course, the upgrade button is still sitting there. So, do I continue in limbo and wait ... or is there something else I can do?

I think it's fine, you don't have to do anything else.

Okay, thanks, LK & Ian. I'm still doing one more maintenance gig (I didn't do the search index). Can I assume that vars_versions.cgi file would remove the upgrade button from the CP? As always, I very much appreciate the help and advice shared with me here at UBBDev--with extra special thanks to Ian and Allen.

Please post the URL to this topic in your support ticket and note in the ticket that I asked it be assigned to me. I want to find out exactly what about the upgrader is causing it to whitescreen while the other maintenance doesn't care. Oh, and don't install any hacks between now and then.

Um, Charles, I already sent in the ticket ... can I add to it?! -- Oh, and edit to add that I also got a white page when I was indexing one of the forums ... -- Oh, and one other thing, Charles ... do you think I can have my board open until we get this fixed (I'll just run it nekkid ) ... or should I leave it closed? Thanks.

I'm still weary about using beyond compare to port my mod's; I like doing everything by hand... So my board will be nekked soon ...

FYI - Charles: when I went to approve those who were in my registration queue (from the other day), a white page happened after it approved them. I hate white pages.

White pages aren't that bad when you have access to your error log, as error logs tell you exactly what caused the white page.

Unfortunately I don't have access to that log ... hmmm ... another thing to contact my host about! I also discovered another funky thing: I have my buddy and several key members' "most recent posts" in my favorite places ... when I access this, I am getting posts from ONE FORUM ... and most of the posts are 2 to 3 years old! --- edit to add: on the front page of my board, it is telling me that one of my most popular forums has zero topics/posts! When I go into the forum, however, the threads are there! --- This upgrading stuff is freakin' scary.

No, it is not safe to open your board. The metadata is in an inconsistant state. Keep it closed until I can get to your ticket tomorrow. You can add a reply to the ticket at any time by using the Add Reply link near the bottom.

I need to say a couple of things ... first of all, I have my board up and running now ... the problem of last weekend had very little to do with UBB.classic and much to do with my host company. I had e-mailed them before I started the upgrade and told them my plans--because I knew that I'd be transferring a lot of data back and forth ... and I didn't want to be *penalized* for that--if you will. But it didn't register on them, and what was happening is that they had some built-in triggers that would stop what they felt were possible "run away scripts." This is what they told me: quote: All plans have cpu limits to prevent runaway scripts this is standard on any shared hosting accounts only dedicated do not have cpu or memory time limits. It does not limit it your usage it prevents a runaway script meaning infinitely looping from affecting the rest of the server. This maintains stability across shared hosting servers. ---- Once they adjusted the "cpu limits" to my site, the upgrade went through without any problems. *sigh* I feel badly that I wasted a lot of your time here--especially Charles, Allen, and Ian. I certainly wish my host company (which, for the most part, has been pretty good) would communicate better. It'd save a lot of time and prevent hassles. ----- I apologize for not coming in here sooner, but this past week has been a very emotional one for me personally (I suffered a major loss for me) and I was swamped with work. I've completed the bulk of the upgrade ... just have some *minor fixes* to do ... As always, I really appreciate everyone here at UBBDev. You are the best.

It's standard with virtual hosting? We don't have that lol... We do however limit users from using more than 10% of CPU time for more than a minute (not too many sites do that, so we don't usually have issues). I was wondering how this went for you, couldn't find the post though . Sorry to hear about your loss.
