Is this hard to do? I added a mod (6.4) to list an index of all posts in a thread at the top of that thread. I was thinking about giving the member an option to show the index or not. Is this possible? Is there something similar I can look at? Thanks.

You should probably look at upgrading to 6.7, as doing this would be easier - there's a generic profile field holder thingie (technical term) that's easy to hook into, and also a centralized place to set the ubber cookie, which means you can let some Javascript code read the cookie and write some CSS or something and do all the magic client-side... a heck of a lot easier than doing it server side / preprocessing the cache file / breaking the cache entirely.
