Very recently, our forum updated from 6.4 to 6.7.2

Either just before or just after (I am not sure which), the archives were pruned on all 13 forums.

Is possible to restore all postings (& responses) on two forums only (4 & 11) from a daily backup?

There has been no postings to these two specific forums since updating. I do not want to affect the content of the other forums.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can safely overwrite those two ForumX directories from the backup. Be sure to preserve permissions. If you don't know what they were, set them and everything within them to 0777.

Can you clarify a couple questions regarding file structure.

1. For example, one forum in question is forum #4 named "FAQ's".

Listed below is a link showing the contents of a link directly to that forum.

Listed below is a link to a specific topic.

From the above info, can you tell me the full name of file to be restored including folder path and extension for forum #4?

2.What is the content of the forum file being restored? Is it just user postings and response? I have learned that the backup is an old 6.4 format. Does that matter or would it cause grief? If restored, I would assume it would have to be indexed before using.

1) It'll be Forum4/000056.cgi.

If forum 4 is private, there will be a directory starting with "private-" inside Forum4. You'll find the topic file inside that private directory instead.

2) The topic format has not changed signifigantly in over five years. smile After the file(s) have been restored, and permissions are set, you'll need to run a full set of maintenance (forum metadata rebuild, search index (+post history) rebuild, user subscription index rebuild).

Thanks Charles for the above response and the answer on my other posting. Both are helpful.
