I don't know if anyone else has noticed this but if you rebuild forum stats in the control panel when there are no posts in the forum, it will delete the forum_thread_data_0000.cgi file, thus causing problems when someone wants to post in the forum, because it will look for this file to modify but it wont be there. It will require another update of the stats for it to recreate the forum_thread_data_0000.cgi file.
When somebody tries to post, it creates the 000X.cgi file for the topic, but brings up the error message asking the user to report to the admin telling him to update the forums stats, which shouldn't really happen and gives a bad image of your sites workings.
I can see this being a problem if someone was to have a forum which hasn't been posted in but you needed to update a majority of the forums and choose them all instead of just the ones that needed it. (Normally this wouldn't hurt if there were posts in the forums)
Perhaps a mod which would check to see if any posts had been made and if not, then just simply skip that forum update and go to the next one on the agenda.
What do you think?
