When someone posts and extremely long URL the formatting of the thread becomes very messed up (Stretched tables), not everyone uses the add URL function to get around this.
How about when someone types a long URL what is actually displayed is truncated to a defined length, so the actual link would still work but the displayed URL would be truncated
i.e. the
[URL=http://www.therealylongurl.com/etcetctecblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblahblah........etc. ] bit would still contain the long address but the displayed link would be shortened
i.e to
http://www.therealylongurl.com/etcetctecblah.....
