I don't know the exact reasons, but ISPs like AOL often have the same IP address for their members. Thus, if most of your members are AOL users, their IP addresses will be the same or similar.

They aren't the same.
Like many other cable providers, they "rotate" the IP addresses.
If user A has 164.221.78.13 today, he will get another different IP (same subnet class) in a week or two (they're usually changed after two weeks, if memory serves). Someone else will get user's A IP address at the same time.
Week 1: User A - 164.221.78.13. User B - 164.221.24.213 Week 3: User A - 164.221.20.79. User B - 164.221.78.13
You get the drift.
Is everyone's IP the same? Yours too?
If so, something's really fishy going on...
Cable IP addresses can be "hijacked", but not shared so easily between many users at a time.

Hmm... I had this problem on my UBB when I was running 6.2. Thankfully a clean upgrade sorted it out; I had a feeling that a hack I had installed was doing it (no offense intended at all to the UBB developers, sorry guys)...
Which hacks (if any) do you have installed?

Sticky, who's online, quick reply.
Yea it's not aol .. it's every member including myself all having the same I.P. YOu ban one person, you ban yourself. Hah.
I think it might be a mistake in a hack.

WOL... That's the one I was using when the IPs seemed to mess up :
The best (non-hacker) advice I can give is upgrade to 6.2, which has PNTF built in. :

WOL is installed. The Version Of the UBB in this case is 6.3 Full. Other hacks just include sticky, JUST DID advanced IP logging thinking it might help the situation, it didnt work. Hack works fine, but didnt fix the IP problems. Not EVERYONE has the same IP...But like 10-15 people will have the same one. sometimes more sometimes less...like masses of people have the same IP...Doesnt make any since...even if IP's Change. etc. My IP is even wrong. By going to My network area on my comp or by using serve-u ftp i can check my IP to get the current one. I have DSL. And my IP reported by UBB has been the same. and like i share the IP with at least 10 other people. This has been going on since I dont know when. We only have 500 members or so. But when you click whose online or a IP a list of people come up with the same IP..
What part of UBB is the code for loggin IP's at? where would i go to make sure its fine?
Could someone post the correct code for the IP logging part or IP log?
we have a few more minor hacks..but nothing that should have affected the IP because it was doing it before the hacks where installed .
Well any help will be appreciated thanks.

The hacks you mentioned don't come anywhere near the IP logging in UBB.classic.
As for your host, I doubt it, but I wouldn't forget that possibility.
The routine to get the remote IP in UBB is named "GetIPAddress" (ubb_lib.cgi).
That's the routine called when the IP addresses are logged for posts (topics/replies/private messages/polls etc.) and is also used by the "Recent Visitors".
Anyway, I'm not sure what can be causing this problem. All I can suggest is start off with a fresh installation of UBB.classic and re-hack.

thanks idle, i was wrong...i guess all the IP's are the same ...of the active members....the old members sometimes have different IP's its like when an IP changes..all our IPS change...this happens every so often im guessing....Ill check out the 1 cgi file.... then if it dont work...possibly just reup the main files..and try rehacking....
