Ok. I have a guy who wants me to do a UBB installation for him. His site has two sections, one for developers and one for end users. Obviously he wants separate categories for each group as well as a category for everyone to use. Basically these categories:

 • General Discussion
 • End Users
 • Developers

He doesn't want end users to see the Developers category and he doesn't want the developers to see the End Users category, but wants everyone to see the General Discussion category. The end users and developers will have different styles too (because of links in header and footer and different color schemes).
So, I don't know how to approach this. Can two different forum summaries be created? One with:

 • General Discussion
 • End Users

and one with:
 • General Disucussion
 • Developers

Can a category and forums within it have more than one style depending on who is viewing them? If not, is it possible to clone forums so when a topic or reply is posted in one it would be posted in another as well so that both forums would have the same messages, but still be able to have different styles?
Obviously this all requires some hacking. Any ideas?

eek

Some modifications to public_forum_summary.pl should do the trick.

For the different styles, you may look into the MyStyle™ mod, I think.

But for the public_forum_summary.pl,
something like:

This is assuming the developers have "Developer" as their custom status.

Hope that helps a little bit. wink

Ok. I've figured out a way to do the styles thing (at least for the summary page). I haven't tried with the actual forums yet.

Now, how do I filter out a category from the forums summary page?

I think I've figured it all out. I've added an alternate forum summary that can be any style and it uses a different categories.file. I've added some of the options to the control panel, but eventually I'll have to add more. With the summary figured out, now all I have to do is deal with with the shared forums and the miscellaneous pages. Thanks for the help though. I will most likely be posting more questions as I work on this. Although, I'm starting to understand where things are in the UBB code now. I might even post my first mod when this is done.
