Another idea I had while staring at blacktop on a 3 hour drive from one service call to the next...

The ability to assign a single Forum into multiple categories...

An example where this would be useful:

My UBB is being used by my gaming guild... my guild spans 3 seperate games.

I want to keep the members of the entire guild, some of which only play one or two of the three games, on the same board.

Some members visit all the forums while others only want to visit their particular game's forum.

So I have categories only being displayed.

Add to this, I have a News and Updates Forum that I'd like everyone to visit.

Now that I have categories only on forum summary, I'd like to know if there's a way for me to include News and Updates in each category, without me having to create this forum for each seperate category and posting three seperate times...

What do you all think? Am I just suffering a pipe dream brought on by staring at the pretty wavey haze coming off the heat of the blacktop? Or am I on to something here? wink

You're on to something.

Getting this done could be very easy on the user-end of things... The control panel would be a different matter.

But then you face a distinct problem - which category is the forum listed under in the breadcrumbs at the top? Remember, the page is cached....

One idea would be removing the category breadcrumb altogether.

(This was one of the issues when subforums and the like were discussed a while ago. The whole idea of subforums is very easy, and like this, easy enough to code in... but it's hard to manage - the cpanel would be a nightmare...)

Hmm... I had thought the best place for this option would be in the CP. Maybe not?

Ahh well, it was a thought. Perhaps I will just go back to the standard no-categories first view and tell the ones who complain to just scroll. hehe

I admit I didn't think about the breadcrumbs. I focused on just one part of it. Sorry about that, just a tish tired after working 10-12 hour days. tipsy

I appreciate the response CC. smile
