What do you think about the possibility to issue a public caution to the users who break the rules of the forum?
It could be like this: - Admin/Mod button in a topic "Rulebreaker". On an extra page, the admin/mod can insert a text like "defamation of other users". - On the topic-page, where name, rank etc is displayed, also a note "Warnings: 2" is shown, where people can click on and see what kind of warnings the user got. - After a time of x days, the warning gets canceled automaticly. - After x warnings, the user is not allowed to post to the forum anymore.
I think this could help to make people think twice about what and how they write their postings...
Maybe this idea is not new, but I couldnt find a hack like this.

I like the idea. If you don't mind, I may look into it when I finish my current mod.

Idle, when you do it, please add cp integration for these "x days" things (different x for each), and when x is 0 - never cancel/disable posting permissions. If you can, please use mod cp addon

Idle, sure, go ahead when you have time. If I should make this one my first own hack, I will give a note.
Maybe "After x days" should be "after x days and y postings". Otherwise users just take some days off and continue with their nonsense.

Gah... Well, whatever.
Anyway, I won't use the mod CP thing, instead I'll keep my method of having as much as possible "external", i.e. new files, minimal editing of UBB's files.

It would be nice, if the admin/mods can make a vote about the warning before it will be in public. If a mod thinks that someone should get a warning, he clicks on the button. All other admins and mods get an information about that or they can take a look at the "delay"-list. If x mods or y admins vote for "send warning" he gets his warning in his list. If they do not agree, the delayed-warning will be erased.
This is a kind of democracy, isnt it?

Yup, I like this one too. I've thought about running a "three strikes and you're out" policy but having it displayed and tracked automatically would make my members think twice.
After all, my web space, my money, my community, my rules, play nicely.

There was a hack based on this for UBB5, called the Karma Hack. You can find out about it here , and you can download it (for v5 only!) here .
